>Poland has made significant progress in its talks with U.S. defense firm Raytheon (RTN.N) over a $5-billion missile defense system, Polish Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz said on Monday.

>"Indeed, the recent talks between Raytheon (and Poland) are very, very promising and one may say that a breakthrough has taken place," Macierewicz told Reuters.

>"Raytheon has agreed to our minimal condition aimed at securing that at least 50 percent of the money which is to be spent of the Patriot system (Raytheon's missile defense system) would be spent on works done by Polish plants," he said.

>The missile defense tender, whose value defense officials estimate at around $5 billion, is central to Warsaw's large-scale army modernization program, speeded up in response to the Ukraine crisis and Russia's renewed assertiveness in the region.

It seems rather provocative on the US' part. Even if Russia is acting more 'aggressive' lately, is there a realistic modern scenario where they start launching missiles into or over Poland?

>provocative to let a private company
make an international sale

Raytheon isn't a government agency, they're a company. As long as they aren't selling secret tech to China or ISIS the US doesn't get to say who they sell to.

Plus it's money for Americans working and paying taxes as well as the company itself paying taxes (lol)

Isn't this untrue? I thought US State Dep / Congress have to approve weapons deals like this?
>>

yeah, no. The govt has to approve that and tech transfers. Arms market is not "free". It's petty much pure politics and always a part of a nation's long term foreign policy.
