Is he true? Asides from all the "jokes" he makes, does raising taxes for the rich really work?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtNbMD96xgY
>>
It worked here.
>>
You can't trust the government with too much authority. If people weren't mammals, it would work.
When you give away all that power to the government, eventually one asshole will take advantage of it. And all it takes is one shitty, rotting fruit.
>>
>>79755677
You only need to bleed the rich when you can't balance budgets and control spending. It's an easy excuse for politicians to profit off other people's success.
>>
>>79755677
It usually mostly hits the hard-working professionals, not the rent-seekers.
>rich people can afford tax avoidance/evasion

I think it could, but the media and the politicians here (who are coincidentally controlled by the rich) will never let us find out

Pic related, the rich have been enguaged in unilateral class warfare for 30+ years, yet when employees try to unionize, suddenly the media cries "class warfare!!!"

Fucking jews

there is no such thing as a perfect system

neither unrestricted capitalism or full blown communism ever work out like their champions proclaim they will.

hong kong and free-market zones in china are probably the closest thing we have to unrestricted capitalism right now, and they're also blowing out most other economies in the world
>>
>>79757627
unrestricted capitalism would be far superior. There are very few natural monopolies. Capitalism becomes unfair when the rich use the pseudo-legitimacy of the government monopoly on force to pass laws favouring certain ones over others
>>
Of course it works you idiot

Raising taxes works when taxes are lower than the rate of economic expansion can be exploited. Cutting taxes works when the taxes are higher than the economic growth would beat without large impact.

The laffer curve changes based on the strength of other economic factors.

Then it also matters how corruptable the tax structure is.

>>
>>79758933
There are instances where it has and instances where it hasn't.

America, from what I've seen, has an above average level of exploitability in the tax code making "the tax rate on the rich" more meaningless here than in othe's r developed nations.

If improvement in quality of life and living conditions can be made, should it not be? Income inequality is due to rising earnings to the top 1%, while all other earners wages remain stagnant. Think about that. It is not by accident. Forget the shitty low earning jobs, because in general all of our income has stagnated while productivity has skyrocketed. Whether you are a manager, programmer, doctor, dentist, teacher, professor, salesman, etc...even all of their salaries have stagnated as well, while one group has seen their profits sore even through the worst recession since the Great Depression. To think people are doing great with they're car and smartphone, but many of them aren't. The top is earning more through hook or crook, while they get the citizenry to flip the bill. The major drug companies ensure whatever savings you had is depleted the second you are sick. The oil companies know you need their fuel to survive. The car companies know you need a vehicle to drive. They all keep their prices high enough that the market can bear and the second the market can bear more they raise it. Which is fine, except they don't pay their people more. That's how we get income inequality. They take more while we take less and we pay more for everyday goods as prices rise even higher and our wages remain stagnant. Cost increases should be two fold and take employees into account.
>>
>>79762219
>because in general all of our income has stagnated while productivity has skyrocketed
that's why lefties import third worlders
spics will work for less, and they compete with middle class americans
the affirmative action shit puts niggers and spics at a competitive advantage, so what you get is, median income is less than what it would naturally occur in a protectionist economy

I never understood how americans can make tax an ideological issue. And turn to crazy abstract understandings of such a simple issue
>take more money have more money
Yes. The problem is that government investion replaces private investion and government is usually doing a shit job running things. To tackle the debt of course either raising taxes or reducing spending is a good idea.

Because our nation won its independence in a war over unjust taxation and liberals here turn everything into an emotional issue.

That being said I support a progressive taxation system but with lower tax rates all around and big spending cuts federally.

Exactly. The entire theory, if properly applied, would lead to incredible instability since organic economic changes would require a constantly evolving tax code. All Art Laffer ever did was devise a theory of how to raise more revenue. It's not necessarily a prescription for economic growth or job creation.

It really hard to stop corruption when 100 people in the senate make the rules for 300 million people..Its very easy to bribe 100 vs bribing every state senate and house in the country.

He was right about the need to invest in the future, but things have come a long way since the 80's especially regarding the concentration of wealth. The qualitative difference in having 200 million and one billion is negligible. People simply cannot spend that amount of money on themselves. There's no reason for people or firms to spend all of their profit on investment.
>>
>>79755677
>Waaah I want more money with less effort Waah

The amount of genuine rich people are a drop in the bucket compared to the rich neets that acquired their wealth thanks to luck (ie parents, friends, lottery, etc).

Rich neets don't put out nearly as much as the genuine rich. They horde their cash and spend it withing their circles to prevent wealth from leaving it. Also rampant tax evasion.

Just like the recent bullshit around CS:GO gambling. It's basically a hand-ful of rich neet jackasses taking advantage of people out-side their own circle to increase their wealth.
>>
>>79755677
Drop in the ocean. Taxing the upper 1% even 20% more in America will see a 0.1% increase in available funding, with the added benefit of companies vacating the country.

If you want to see significant change, the entire way the budgets are made has to see reform.

Yes it does.

As an ex-California and Kentuckian, and current Coloradoan, white blue states have better roads, job markets, houses, education, etc.

Also, I remember Reagan's rule, it is far overrated.
