Why are Germans so much against nuclear energy, hydraulic fracturing and GMO foods? The scientific consensus overwhelmingly support all three things.

How can such a smart people be so irrational and act against their own interests?

It is pretty safe and can be done more safe.

This. My county actually had a petition for a referendum to make our plants tsunami proof.

Fortunately, Bavaria is a very rich state so we can easily afford it if it passes.
>>
as with every "why is germany so cucked" thread, the answer is the same. 70 years of complete leftist media domination left the nation open to at-will indoctrination.
these days, emotional knee-jerk reactions decide the political positions of germans. nothing else. and when it comes to nuclear power, these are the common associations that the media feeds to the people:
>green glowing toxic radiation
>hiroshima and nagasaki
>chernobyl
>fukushima
>disfigured tumor babies
>ultra dangerous waste that will make the entire planet uninhabitable for a gorillion years
>DANGER
>DEATH
>FEAR

nobody ever actually investigates these points and bothers to do a proper cost/benefit/risk analysis. it's all just cheap emotional propaganda, and it works.

You know nothing about nuclear energy. Nuclear is the future. It's the only thing that can bridge the gap between hydrocarbon fuels and high efficiency solar energy.

That we are switching off our nuclear powerplants is stupid yeah, all of our neighbour countrys have them at our border, so we are not really decreasing the risk because if any of theirs blows up, we are fucked anyway.
The entire EU should work towards cold fusion and screw the "green" electricy.
The hydraulic fracturing on the other hand should not be allowed.
It damages the enviroment heavily and for a very long time, it could make our groundwater unusable, who ever thinks its a good idea to pump tons of highly toxic chemicals in to the ground you depend off, grow food, take water from is just stupid as hell.

You'll find the cold war rhetoric lacking in the face of a nuclear resource that doesn't yield materials fit for arms production, only emits alpha radiation (too weak to penetrate the skin) and cannot meltdown thanks to much cooler performance.

If only we had the money to scale it up for commercial exploitation.
>>

>The scientific consensus overwhelmingly support all three things.
Let's see here
- nuclear power
Three Mile Island, Tchernobyl, Fukushima
- fracking
burning poisoned tap water in the US plus gas companies realizing fracturing renders only 10% of the estimated amounts
- GMO
There's empirical evidence that links bees dying in masses to Monsanto products

So all that stuff probably costs more in the long run than it saves in costs.

That means it could happen at some point that all of this stuff could escape in to the enviroment and fuck us all.

>>

>against nuclear energy

German scientists are among the best of nuclear research. Several test-reactors are currently running und just last year merkel herself activated a new fusion reactor.

The germans aren´t against this technology, rather they 1) want something more complicated and technological sophisticated and 2) don´t want it in their front garden
>>
>>79614999
Pay other countries to take it, I know Australia receives a lot of nuclear waste from other countries and then buries it all in a desert somewhere.

There's also progress towards recycling nuclear waste.

this shit is blown vastly out of proportion by the media. all this drama about "finding a suitable storage site" is just because every state is trying to put the waste in some other state's territory.

contrary to popular belief, this waste isn't some kind of chernobyl reactor shit that will immediately give cancer to everything within a 3 mile radius. plenty of industrial chemicals are more dangerous than nuclear waste. the big theoretical danger is just the fact that certain parts of the waste can be reprocessed into fissile material, which can then be used to construct nuclear weapons. that's why the security is so high - people are paranoid about some terrorist group or some foreign government getting their hands on that shit. the stuff itself is pretty tame, and certainly does not warrant the kind of hysteria that it's causing here.
>>
>>79615491
Are you brain damaged or something?

>>79615194
75%. We also export lots of it. No regrets here, nuclear is awesome and we live in the countries with less seism (and the biggest ones are small comparing to japan). We also have like no risk of tsunami and whatnot... It would be hands on retarded not do use nuclear in those conditions. That allowed to make us leaders in the fields and we're researching very strongly fusion too. This is the future and not meme sun or wind energy that you can't rely on.

>Nuclear energy
Not only nuclear plants, but also large transport ships should be running on nuclear power. ALL the cars let out very little CO2 compared to the transport ships.

Con; waste can be used for nuclear weapons.

Governments should invest heavily on Thorium.
>>

The danish have no clue on how to handle dangerous stuff, just look at the case of Pallas, a burning vessel of their coast. We had to take care of it, they just ignored it.
>>
>>79615726
You're missing the point. We need to use some form of energy. And he's been shitting on literally every type of efficient and usable energy source.

It's not a question of whether something in particular is good or bad. It's a question of which is the best to use. You can't just say X, Y, and Z are all bad and therefore we shouldn't use energy at all.
>>
>>79612758
>Also what do with the waste?
The leftover Uranium you can give em to Russia, they have breeder reactors that can make even more fissile material.
>>
>>79615851

No they don't.

I wikipedia'd 'Enviromental Impact of Shipping' and it came up with a figure of about 2% global CO2 emissions as a result.

>large transport ships should be running on nuclear power

nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers can use nuclear reactors because they're fucking full of military personnel, and either sit at the bottom of the ocean all the time or have massive naval escorts (carriers) around them. no pirate/terrorist operation can capture these.

but civilian ships? hell fucking no. no. no.

How? Nuclear energy cost goes down with time. It has the fewest deaths per terawatt of all energy sources. And every 1000 kg of uranium consume for production saves 1 T of CO2 emissions.

Many of the germans do want nuclear energy, otherwise they would've been shut down entirely if 100% of us would want that.
An there are other ways to win energy, by wind, by water, by the sun etc.
Iam not a big fan of the "green" energy my self, but if they can replace at least the power plants that use things like coal or oil than its a huge win.
I personally think the best compromise would be "green" power plants like the ones i mentioned already and nuclear power plants and turn off all the "dirty" ones.
It would be more safe and more clean at the same time.
Sadly "green" energy causes higher costs that we have to pay.
So far the only real solution for the worlds energy problem is the cold fusion, but thats far away or might never be accomplished.

And to the "fracking" thing: its just stupid for me, period.
To the GMO stuff I don't have a real opinion, i simply don't really know anythign about it.
But i'd stick to the saying "better safe then sorry"

I almost sold our to the Solar jew, they were expecting me to pay 10 grand for chinese made solar panels, I guess it's not too bad if they have a 25 year warranty.

But they were trying to sell it based on increasing Electricity bills, Saying how our energy bills are projected to double in the next 10 years.

Well here's the kicker, When you pay for solar panels, say 10grand. you end up paying double your monthly cost in energy bills if you add the cost of the panels with your bills, for the 3 years you pay the financing, the panels degrade in performance and your panels are not even covering half your bill anymore.

By the time you're owning your panels fully, You'll be paying the exact same amount of cost in energy bills because of the doubling of power cost in the 10 years they are projected to be at. You're right back at where you were but 10k dollars lesser.

Don't fall for the solar jew guys.

This. Germans are very good at agreeing about things "everybody knows". Me, I have made an informed decision to be in favor of nuclear power and GMO food. I have given up on voicing these opinions in the company of Germans, though. They won't even try to argue with you, just shout you down with "Everyone knows its baaaad!!!111!!eleven".

Fun fact: Most nuclear powerplants were build at a time before men walked on the moon and are still working perfectly fine. If we build one now it would probably be absolutely failsafe and stupidly eco friendly compated with other traditional means.

Teller was a Jew, Of course he would love for an opportunity to kill whites en-masse

That doesn't mean Nuclear Power for commercial power production is bad in any way, All nuclear electricity generation accidents were man made or design inadequacy, we can solve that by improving on reactor design.

FYI, world wide nuclear powerplant count=435

Accidents in entirety of operation ~3

Deaths= less than a 100 people from DIRECT cause by nuclear power production in the entirety of Human Existence.

The waste could vastly be reduced if it was reprocessed to make plutonium. This also hugely expands the useful lifetime of uranium mined from the ground. The main issue preventing this is the nuclear proliferation act that frowns upon refining plutonium. But in theory, it provides nearly endless clean power. By clean, I mean emissions free, and prevent global warming.

The reason we can't reprocess for clean energy is that as soon as we start everyone else will feel justified in doing the same. The truth is that we can only trust western nations with refining nuclear material because history shows we are moderate enough not to use it to make bombs (we've scaled a lot of our arsenals down) and keep the stuff very secure, and from bad experience treat it with high levels of respect regarding safety. African and Middle Eastern countries would want to refine nuclear material to make bombs as quickly and cheaply as possible and they likely would get used because of religious crazies and dictators that constantly switch in and out of power there.

Read again mate. Human Factor is "man made"
Or at least that's what I implied.

This is the reason about 0.5% of nuclear power plants eventually catastrophically fail.

It is because those who want to end all nuclear power create endless stupid regulations in the hope of making it too expensive. Instead they merely distract away from effective measures to make nuclear power as safe as it can be
