Some people understand that death is a part of life. Many families genuinely use things like Weddings and Funerals as moments to get together with family, reflect, and catch up with each other. People fly/drive in from out of town. See each other for a few days, etc. Reminisce. Hell, the Irish have turned funerals into a sport on who can get most wasted.
Especially if Granny was like 100 fucking years old and on death's door for the last 10 years. I mean, sure, say a prayer, bow your head at the casket and during the ceremony, whatever, etc. After that? With social media you're essentially creating content which is consumed as an entertainment product which generates revenue for websites, isp's etc. If you're talking about fairly trivial things etc then that's not really a problem, but if you're presenting quite intimate parts of your life, packaging it then publishing it on facebook, blogs, youtube, twitter etc etc (which people use for ENTERTAINMENT) i think its really crass.
Furtheremore, weather you like it or not there is a real danger that users of social media essentially start performing for an imagined audience (a "generalized other" as a sociologist would refer to it) to generate experiences that can be used as social capital on social media.... for example I girl I know regularly dates men then denigrates them behind their backs on facebook and her blog.... she has quite the audience. In consequence, instead of having something approaching an authentic date where to mutual parties are trying to get to know each other, she's performing a lounge act with the primary intention of generating content that has a voyeuristic value to people she doesn't even know

Generally grandparents want their families to be united.
