We arrived on a flight from Tokyo and Homeland Security had just started with fingerprinting everyone, which didn't work very well, so it took us quite a long time to get through the first checkpoint.
There were quite a few Japanese people that weren't very good at English, hoo boy did they get screamed at! One older couple was trying to figure out what line to get into, so a couple security dudes ran up to them yelling and screaming 'You think you're an American!? You get over in that line!'

There were 4 schoolgirls that were confused too, so 3 huge dudes surrounded them screaming and yelliing. 2 of the dudes moved their hands to their firearms while doing so. Waiting in that line, I could really understand why people hate Americans so much. That was disgusting.
But we're just getting started.
After finally clearing the first checkpoint, we had to collect our luggage and bring it to some room, unlock it and put it on a carousel. One of our bags couldn't be re-locked without a key. I asked the lady about it in the room and she screamed at me 'Can you read the sign, huh, can you read the sign!?' As patiently as I could, I explained to her that I had indeed read the sign and wanted to know how we could lock up our case.
Instead of answering me, she pulled out her telephone and called a buddy to chit chat. When I said 'excuse me' she just pointed at the sign and turned around. I asked the wife if anything in the bag was important and there was just another empty bag inside, so I said quite loudly, 'Well then screw it, don't unlock it for these assholes.'

Then we had another checkpoint. At this checkpoint they let me and my wife go through, but then decided my little girl (I think she was 4 at the time) was a terrorist threat. She had to remove her shoes and then some guy, yes a guy, started patting her down quite thoroughly while mean mugging me, and I was already on the other side of the scanner.

My wife very slowly and very carefully explained that the Canadian passports the lady was holding belonged to me, her, and my daughter. She went on to explain that we live in Hong Kong now. She then explained that we did not mean to come to the USA. She booked our tickets to visit our families in Canada with a travel agent and the agent said it would be cheaper to go this way. She said she was very sorry for stopping in the USA, it was an accident, and she promised it would never happen again.
The lady sheepishly stamped our passports and let us through.
The funny thing was, any of these tough security guys started mean-mugging you, if you looked directly at them and said 'Yes, can I help you?', which I did a few times, they'd look at their feet.

Now, what happens when they get in? That is always in the air. Some of these guys will balloon into land-whales and assorted ham-planets. Some have been fired for letting themselves go.
Being in private security and looking to move into policing myself, I have heard that TSA is a stressful and miserable job. And the internal culture is a back-stabbing hive of villainy and personal corruption, along with twisty interpersonal politics.
It is awful. But the great thing about the TSA is two things. The benefits, and the fact that it is a gateway to other areas in Homeland Security. It could even be a gateway to federal law enforcement if you keep yourself together mentally and physically.
It is a year long gauntlet for most looking to go into security and policing on the federal level. It will be awful. Getting experience there could allow for lateral movement into other agencies. Event the possibility for easier movement into state and local law enforcement agencies, depending on your education.
Finish those degrees in criminal justice and don't get roped into staying with the TSA. Most smart people move out when the first full year rolls around.

It's because the xrays weren't picking up the guns. It's not the fault of the agents. There are now new xray machines that pick up all types of guns. Also those fbi agents all had clean and safe records, because THEY WERE FBI AGENTS. What they don't tell you is that on the computer, it basically gave all those agents a pass because it tells us that they are government employees.
