When in fact this value is completely hypothetical. The gold is a myth. It's all kept in their vaults. It had nothing to do with the value of your money because it's paper. This is essentially what Chairman Paul Volcker did once he shocked the economy in 1980 to alleviate inflation. However, Reagan--in all his genius--decided to remove Volcker who was extraordinarily popular among pretty much everyone on both liberal and conservative camps and instead replace him with Greenspan who was literally in the pockets of Jews and big banks.
So lets try this again the Reagan way:

It's not enough to just throw numbers back and forth at each other to prove some kind of point. We have to ask ourselves "why did this happen."
Okay lets look at the 1982 number. Why did unemployment rise to 10% in 1982? It rose to 10% because Carter forced a recession to bring down inflation. Yes, that's right, Carter forced a recession.
Volcker was fed chairman and forced the Carter administration to accept the fact that the only way to combat all the inflation caused by Vietnam and the Nixon shocks was to jump federal funds rates rates sky high. Long story short is that high rates keeps people from borrowing money, growth is hampered and with insane rates you get unemployment and recession. This was the only way to fix all the economic turmoil that Nixon put in place with his price controls and his manipulation of the FED.
So basically by the time Reagan came into office Carter had already jumped the rates, forced a recession and deregulated numerous private markets in order to stop the price controls of the Nixon era.
Less than 1.5 years later inflation goes back down to where it was when Ford was leaving office. Oh and Reagan kept Volcker in charge of the FED this entire time because he knew Volcker was the only one who could fix the inflation.
Long and short of it is that Reagan had almost nothing to do with lowering inflation and a basic background in economics and you can give more credit to Carter than Reagan.
