Longtime lurker, first time posting. In wake of the Brexit, I came to wonder what /pol/ thought of Enoch Powell. The man stood against the EEC in the sixties and seventies, as well as against mass uncontrolled immigration to Britain. Opinions, /pol/?

A visionary 40 years ahead of his time. As a man, one of the most frighteningly brilliant minds of his time... of any time - aimed to become the youngest full professor, was less than 1 year away from beating Nietzsche's still-standing record. Enoch was 25. Went into WW2 as a private, came out a Brigadier.

He was unquestionably right.
When you do not seek consent for something which will fundamentally change a populations way of life....
When that change leads to unintended consequences (unemployment, child rape gangs, housing shortage, sharia law, honour killing, acid attacks)...
Then you will not carry the support of the general public in solving these problems, and the public will seek to undermine and eradicate the entire policy of change that was imposed upon them. Either by ballot or by other means.
If the government of the day had asked the native population, had sought consent, had attempted to make the case for immigration, then things could have been different. Actually the same is true for the actions of the EU in many areas. Because politicians did not have the courage of their convictions, and because they had the option of not seeking consent, they took the "easy route" in the short term and just acted autonomously.
We had too much immigration, too soon, it was not planned-for properly then as today, so it was bound to "go wrong", in addition to which the fact "we were never asked" means that when it did start having negative consequences, politicians had no hope of carrying the publics confidence.
Like the Roman he saw the River Tiber foaming with much blood.

"A man can have a love of India, without wishing to see India on the streets of Birmingham."
Wise, controversial, slightly eccentric, war veteran, scholar, visionary.
He was no racist as many portray, he was a true nationalist who simply wanted to protect the heritage of his people.
Alas it is only in hindsight can we see such things...
