Listen man there is no creator and even if and IF there ever was, he is long gone. Even if there was one(which there is not) worshipping it like a deity would be totally retarded. It would want you to be the best you can be and not blindly follow it in fear and complete dominance.

But to break it down. All cultures had one form of gods or another. Personally I think yours (Sweden, Norse) was the best one since they were the 'closest' the pain of reality has to offer. Religion as an establishment is a bullshit excuse that is meant to give SOME people wealth and power while keeping control of the masses. It was proven over and over again that religions factions (at least major ones) don't really care about the spiritual part but making money, owning land and fucking kids.
People need the concept of god because they need to believe in something, even if that something is a bullshit make up excuse for a being. They also like to have control over everything that happens to them... Truth is you have no control over life and the faster you accept that shit happens for absolutely no reason, the faster you can get over that god shit. It's a lot easier to say that 'WELL GOD WILLED IT' and find an excuse when a close one dies rather than accept that it was for no reason at all. Furthermore, people like to lie to themselves that THERE MUST BE SOMETHING MORE after you die, obviously because they are too cowards to accept death.
It's also an easy way to undermine human achievements... Its easier to say 'well god worked through that man' instead of accepting the pain and sacrifice that came with that discovery. So in a sense, god is simply an excuse for people to simplify reality.
As for the fruits, remember that HUMANS selectively bred them for hundreds of years or more to feed us better and easier.
