I don't really understand your motivation.
I tried to get into Judaism, I really did. My dad's family is Jewish and I've always been much closer with them than my mom's redneck Anglo side, plus when I've been with Jewish groups it does feel like "my community", a group I'm comfortable in. So I wanted to get into it, and I found some really interesting things, particularly in Jewish intellectual history. I found New York's Jewish anarchist movement (1880s - 1930s) really interesting, I really liked Jewish existential philosophy (Jews say language can shape reality, and Spinoza is amazing), and I really like Yiddish literature, like Sholem Aleichem. But the thing is, I can't in good conscious call myself a Jew because while I find all that interesting and valuable, as I've researched religious philosophy, whether I like it or not I've found a number of traditions I find more valuable, substantive, and insightful than Judaism, including Soto Zen Buddhism, Philosophical Taoism, Sikhism, and Quakerism.
The thing that I dislike the most about orthodox Judaism is the adherence to pointless traditions/restrictions. They even admit that adherents follow them pointlessly, just to preserve their tradition. Conservative Judaism is the most appealing to me because it's more substantive than Reform Judaism, but it still has a number of dumb restrictions. Why would you submit yourself to such things? I'd say think for yourself.
While I do find those other traditions more substantive, I recognize that it'd be retarded to get into Sikhism, so I'm basically just leaving the subject. I am considering getting into the practice of zen meditation, though. I might also check out a Quaker service, just to get a clearer idea of the religion.
