While black cultures socially signal their status by showing strength or material acquisitions, white middle to upper classes signal their status by showing their education, wealth, and worldliness. The strongest white signal of these combined statuses today is having a morality centered around uplifting so-called under represented minorities. Signaling this morality shows other whites that they have interesting lives full of diverse people and experiences, and that they are "educated" enough to know all people are the same, unlike the "uneducated" "racist" lower class "NASCAR fans" that they look down on for classist reasons.
So basically, when they say "#blacklivesmatter" what they're really saying is "I am a high status white person."
