Imaging X-Ray Spectrometer

The mechanism principle that modern microphones operate on today.

No lie: There are a ton of innovative black inventors in our history, because prior to welfare, poor people had to scrape and get creative to make do.

Most of America's best engineers from the early 20th and 19th centuries share humble backgrounds because it fostered a love for creative solutions to problems.

Leonard C. Bailey (??-1918) was an African-American business owner and inventor.

Born into poverty, Bailey initially found work as a barber, building up a string of barber shops in Washington D. C.[1]

He invented and received patents for a series of devices, many designed for military or government use. These included a folding bed,[2] a rapid mail-stamping machine, a device to shunt trains to different tracks, and a hernia truss adopted into wide use by the U. S. Military.[3][4][1] These inventions provided him with a sizable income.

Sarah Boone (1832-1904) was an African American inventor who on April 26, 1892, obtained United States patent rights for her improvements to the ironing board. Boone's ironing board was designed to improve the quality of ironing sleeves and the bodies of women's garments. The board was very narrow, curved, and made of wood. The shape and structure allowed it to fit a sleeve and it was reversible, so one could iron both sides of the sleeve.[1]

Boahen was named an IEEE fellow in 2016. Specific contributions throughout his career include the development of the current-mode subthreshold CMOS circuit design paradigm, the address-event approach to communicating spikes between neuromorphic chips, and the scalable design of multi-chip systems. Boahen’s chips are mixed-mode: they employ analog circuits for computation and digital circuits for communication.

Boahen's work has demonstrated that neuromorphic computer chips are capable of reproducing many types of brain phenomena across a large range of scales. Examples includ ion-channel dynamics[4] (individual molecules), excitable membrane behavior (individual neurons), the orientation tuning of neurons in Visual Cortex[5] (individual cortical columns), and neural synchrony[6] (individual cortical areas). Utilizing these breakthroughs, Boahen's Stanford lab built the first neurmorphic system with one million spiking neurons (and billions of synapses).[7] This system, Neurogrid, emulates networks of cortical neurons in real time, while consuming only a few watts of power. In contrast, simulating one million interconnected cortical neurons in real-time using traditional super-computers requires as much power as several thousand households.

C.W. Chappelle’s successfully designed a long-distance airplane. He won a medal for being the only African-American to invent and display an airplane at the spectacular 1911 First Industrial Airplane Show held in conjunction with the U.S. International Auto Show at Manhattan’s Grand Central Palace in New York City.[13] His airplane invention was written about in several of the African-American media, one foreign Ghana newspaper described it as a quadruplane, and others just wrote about the excitement of there being an African-American airplane inventor and taking a place in the history of aviation.[14]

Crosthwait’s expertise was on air ventilation, central air conditioning, and heat transfer systems. With this knowledge he created many different heating systems, refrigeration methods, temperature regulating devices, and vacuum pumps. For these inventions he holds 39 United States patents, as well as 80 international patents.[2] In the 1920s and 1930s Crosthwait invented a vacuum pump, a boiler, and a thermostat control, all for more effective heating systems for larger buildings. Some of his greatest accomplishments were for creating the heating systems for the Rockefeller Center and New York’s Radio City Music Hall.[1]

Born in Jefferson City, Tennessee, Dean holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee, a master's degree in electrical engineering from Florida Atlantic University and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University.[5] Dean is the first[6] African-American to become an IBM Fellow which is the highest level of technical excellence at the company. In 1997, he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.[5]

Currently, he is the John Fisher Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Tennessee.[7] He was previously CTO for IBM Middle East and Africa[8] and was an IBM Vice President overseeing the company's Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California prior to that.[9] Dean now holds more than 20 patents.[10][11] Dean was part of the team that developed the interior architecture (ISA systems bus) that enables multiple devices, such as modems and printers, to be connected to personal computers. Dean also taught computer science at Harvard.

Carver actually didn't do that, it's just that his actual work is way too complicated for the layman.

Carver and his laboratory primarily focused on researching the mechanisms behind folk solutions to issues in the agricultural industry, such as shops using peanut oil to lubricate machinery when they had nothing else, or people making things out of corn husks.

He is essentially the father of science-based chemurgy, that is the use of raw organic materials to replace synthetic, manufactured solutions.

Carver saved a lot of people in agriculture and industry a whole lot of money by showing that they could use cheap filler crops that were no longer suitable for cash production to fulfill other solutions, which enriched many poor southern farmers.

99.999% percent of inventions are incremental improvements or small developments and variations created by teams of engineers combining pre-existing, pre-invented components in a slightly different way. The "genius in his garage with the World-Changing invention" is largely a myth perpetrated by the media.

The problem is that liberals are retarded will read the article I linked and interpret it as "Garrett Morgan, a black man, invented the gas Mask" and use it to claim blacks are great inventors.

>Carver is often mistakenly credited with the invention of peanut butter. By the time Carver published "How to Grow the Peanut and 105 Ways of Preparing it For Human Consumption" in 1916,[63] many methods of preparation of peanut butter had been developed or patented by various pharmacists, doctors and food scientists working in the US and Canada.[64][65][66] The Aztec were known to have made peanut butter from ground peanuts as early as the 15th century. Canadian pharmacist Marcellus Gilmore Edson was awarded U.S. Patent 306,727 (for its manufacture) in 1884, 12 years before Carver began his work at Tuskegee.[67][68]

Just authored two books, Basic Methods for Experiments on Eggs of Marine Animals (1939) and The Biology of the Cell Surface (1939), and he also published at least seventy papers in the areas of cytology, fertilization and early embryonic development.[9] He discovered what is known as the fast block to polyspermy; he further elucidated the slow block, which had been discovered by Fol in the 1870s; and he showed that the adhesive properties of the cells of the early embryo are surface phenomena exquisitely dependent on developmental stage.[10] He believed that the conditions used for experiments in the laboratory should closely match those in nature; in this sense he can be considered to have been an early ecological developmental biologist.[11] His work on experimental parthenogenesis informed Johannes Holtfreter's concept of "autoinduction"[12] which, in turn, has broadly influenced modern evolutionary and developmental biology.[13] His investigation of the movement of water into and out of living egg cells (all the while maintaining their full developmental potential) gave insights into internal cellular structure that are now being more fully elucidated using powerful biophysical tools and computational methods

It's a common myth that Edison "didn't invent the lightbulb". He did. Only his incandescent electric bulbs were actually able to illuminate anything in a practical manner. All the ones before his, that actually worked, relied on literal paper or textile filaments and other ridiculous things that made them power-thirsty and short-lived.

A good comparison is Michelangelo's flying machines. He built them and developed accurate aerodynamic theory. You just needed a non-existent superhuman to turn the levers. He didn't invent the aeroplane, though, the Wright brothers did.

If you need to mentally juggle meanings of words in your head for a simple sentence to make sense, you're probably grasping at straws. "Edison invented the lightbulb." What do we mean "lightbulb"? What do we mean "invented"? It's pretty elementary.

Progressives always argue based on semantics, an argument style which when taken to the extreme, results in nothing meaning anything, which progressives wholeheartedly embrace. Everything is social construct, nothing has any meaning. Therefore Negroids and Caucasoids are exactly the same, you racist.

Name a single, documented, invention, which isn't a modification or improvement of a previously existing invention.

>Why do you say electricity contributed to racism in America?

>Electricity was often used as a way to reinforce the idea that this was somehow, uniquely, a white, Anglo-Saxon accomplishment. In the late 19th century, Americans began to claim a cultural superiority because of their inventiveness and that they were bringing the benefits of technological civilization to cultures that couldn’t possibly have created it themselves.
