In my opinion, any dog is a good dog
However I don't particularly like the very small dogs, Pit Bulls and Rottweilers
I once lost a dog to an irresponsible neighbor's rottweiler. My dog got its head stuck through my fence and the neighbor's rottweiler killed it while it was trapped.
The idiot had trained it to kill and then regularly opened his door and let it walk around the neighborhood on its own.

Any huge dog is based.
They're so big so they know nothing can fuck with them, so they're chill most of the time provided they're well bred to be loyal and peaceful. Makes them ideal scary guard dogs, too. Only downside is its hard to control their bounds and they don't live long.
Greyhounds/lurchers are pretty good house dogs as they're not that needy, they need a good run every day and some attention and then they'll laze around and mind their own business the rest of the time. Wolfhounds are HUGE and based enough to have entire irish folklore based around them, you know that means they're top tier.

I've lived with dogs my whole life, Labradors, Alsatians, Setters, Terriers.
Right now I have two Chinese Crested hairless dogs because a local dog shelter couldn't find homes for them but knew I loved dogs and gave me a call. They look weird, it's strange to hold them but they're lovely little dogs, so friendly and inquisitive.

Great Pyrenees are GOAT tier (memetically and almost literally, since that's what most people here in Texas use them for is protecting goats). They're bred as protectors, and so they're perfect around children. They're vigilant and keep an eye on everything. They're very playful and fun dogs, but their massive size can be a danger to kids if you don't train them at least some.
They're big lovable lugs with paws as big as plates and I love to flip them over and slap their big chests and bellies. They eat that shit up.
They are great fighters too and will absolutely fuck up a coyote's day. The thick fur lets them brave the Texas brush (and coyote bites) and not worry.

I own 2 American pit bull terriers. 1 that I've had since birth(she's surprisingly made it to 15) she's the sweetest dog when it comes to humans, kids made her play dress up, one time caught one pulling her nips and poking her eyes and she didn't do anything. She is even nice to my cat who is a dick and attacks her constantly HOWEVER if another doggo tries to mess with her she goes full nigger. She pretty much killed her daughter and my first dog which was a lab. She has nearly murdered every stray that jumps the fence or whatever. Shepards in my experience can be a bit clingy to one person, and a bit harder to train than some breeds, so if it's your first woofer, I'd stick with something simple like a Labrador. Take into account how active your lifestyle is when getting a dog. German Shepard if they are to live long and healthy lives, need a good amount of exercise.
