Just an FYI, the world isn't ruled by ideas, it is ruled by power. Socialism as Marx imagines it, would require a world-wide revolution. And would require the workers to unite and overthrow the capitalists, and basically create a government ruled somehow by the workers.
The failure of Marx is in believing that the stupid/ignorant workers could actually overthrow anything, or that the stupid/ignorant workers could actually run anything.
What we think of as Socialism, in the real world, has been state-capitalism, and its purpose was to increase the power of the state. The people themselves have always been secondary to the interests of the state.

Basically, the Soviets were able to toss all the lazy peasants off their land, then force them to work in factories, and on labor camps in Siberia. Ostensibly this was in the name of Socialism, in reality it was to increase state power.
By claiming they were "The people's government", it made their forced-collectivization, forced-labor, and forced-migration/resettlement appear legitimate.
