Basically, identity-based political movements are not meant to defend the interests of the group it claims to represent, instead the objective of such movements is to build a coalition which can them be linked to a larger political struggle through careful polarization of particular identities and it's antagonists.
So the gay liberation movement is antagonized to the straight white male demographic, who is also antagonized by the muslim rights movement, so the gay movement should be allied with the muslims, because they share the same "enemy".
The ultimate purpose of this was originally to antagonize all social movements to capitalism, the ultimate "oppressor", but the Jew was smarter and managed to make the straight white male the target instead.

All of this social justice shit is coming straight from sociology. One of the main schools of sociology is called conflict theory, which looks at the way certain "structures" benefit "privileged" groups at the expense of "marginalized" groups.
In a conflict theorist's mind everything is set up purposefully to benefit the current dominant group. It essentially takes the Marxist class struggle narrative and maps it onto every part of life. The capitalist structure we live in was set up by white men, so it must obviously exist to benefit white men.
Where do Muslims and gays come in? In short, they're not straight, white men. The current structure was not set up by these groups, and does not actively incentivize their culture, so they are both being oppressed.
All that matters is the destruction of the dominant structure. There's really not any coherent belief in equality. Because the dominant structure favors white, straight, Christian men, they side with anyone who doesn't check those boxes. Muslims are natural allies because 1) they're typically brown, and 2) because they hate the Western capitalist structure as much as SJWs do.
