What does /pol/ think of the idea of weighted voting?

So the old folk have shafted Britain yet they won't be around long enough to see the consequences. This not very fair.
At the other end of the spectrum young people under the age of 21 are too ignorant and inexperienced to be worthy of a full vote.

Weighted voting:
Age 18-21 one vote = 0.75 votes
Age 60-70 one vote = 0.75 votes
Age 70+ one vote = 0.5 votes

I personally believe people from an ethnic minority, who are most likely to be oppressed and spapegoated by the White majority, should be allowed greater representation than the average White voter. Whether it's mixing things up so their votes count as two votes instead of one, or automatically registering the non-voters in their community with the party most people from their ethnic background voted for (many might be scared to go to the polling station due to racist taunting etc). Something needs to change. We simply can't allow the largely middle-class male demographic ruin things any more. Our time is clearly up. We have to step aside.
>>
>>78564776

This seems like a terrible idea. You're giving more franchise to the people who are least immediately impacted by decisions, and everyone knows almost none of the people complaining about the young getting shafted by BREXIT actually care about long-term consequences.

Anyone who receives government funds (government workers, pensioners, welfarites), or whose employer receives government contracts loses their right to vote.
Why? Because it's a conflict of interest

Voting is not a right. Voting is a privilege, it's something a person needs to be qualified for.
We already restrict felons, kids, and mentally deficient people from voting. We need to expand that principle and only allow those who have achieved a high standard to vote.

What should those standards be? That should be debated

I don't see how marriage discrimination being illegal is bad.

>It was women and blacks, and just recently it was gays.
The thing with democracy is that it was only reserved for those with land and money. This is why women could vote so long as they had either. The feminist suffragette was bullshit, and was more people trying to obtain actual democracy over feminism shit.

The US is also not a democracy.

The American system is not a democracy. It is a constitutional republic. A democracy, if you attach meaning to terms, is a system of unlimited majority rule; the classic example is ancient Athens. And the symbol of it is the fate of Socrates, who was put to death legally, because the majority didn’t like what he was saying, although he had initiated no force and had violated no one’s rights.

Democracy, in short, is a form of collectivism, which denies individual rights: the majority can do whatever it wants with no restrictions. In principle, the democratic government is all-powerful. Democracy is a totalitarian manifestation; it is not a form of freedom . . . .

The American system is a constitutionally limited republic, restricted to the protection of individual rights. In such a system, majority rule is applicable only to lesser details, such as the selection of certain personnel. But the majority has no say over the basic principles governing the government. It has no power to ask for or gain the infringement of individual rights.

I agree - in parts.

Should be directly proportional to age and taxes paid.

Thus, people with more life experience, and which contribute more financially to the state administration, should have greater decision-making participation.
>>
>>78564776
Garbage idea.
Here's what SHOULD be done:

People register for the group they want to vote for.
There is an interview stage of kind, decided by that group (it can be anything from automatic acceptance to computerized tests to personal interviews). This decides whether your registration for the group is accepted or not. A set minimum number of voters must be accepted at this stage.

Accepted voters are then cross-examined by all other parties, which must select a certain number of voters to accept within an interval.

The intersection of all accepted voters is the set of people who are allowed to vote for this election.

The result is that people whose mind cannot be changed will not be allowed to vote on either side. Parties CANNOT choose only blind sheeps, or no other party will accept them as voters.

There are still flaws in this system, but it's significantly better than what's available now and your proposal.

Millennials are confusing and contradictory, one day they're complaining about overpopulation and lack of affordable housing, the next day they're shouting "nobody is illegal! open borders! mass immigration is good for the economy! Millennials are just all over the place, they're completely lost and simply following the popular narrative created for them by a bunch of bureaucratic elites and celebrities (the 'John Oliver liberals'). There is no satisfying way to elect a good ruler. However, the first ruler who has enough intellect and power to enforce his rule and declare himself king is usually competent.

However, the flaw of kings is that it's worshiping the abilities of an autocrat and hoping that his skills in his lineage for it to eventually pass down when it doesn't.

There are good examples of rulers who declared themselves king (Napoleon, that one South American king who's name I forgot) but there are also horrible ones like in Africa.

A king is not a proper form of government.

People around the 23 age mark are the biggest threat to a free society at the moment.

Fuck off.

>It has no power to ask for or gain the infringement of individual rights.
But I just gave you examples when it did

It has done, and the most recent example we've slain is gay marriage. Up until then, a state could vote to prevent gays being married

I'm saying that there our system isn't one where the mob can't abuse it against minorities, and I'm giving you examples of that. Unless you think gay marriage was the last thing, and now it's perfect, then you can't content that we have a system wherein the mob cannot abuse minorities.

Tyrannical garbage. Globalist cucks are starting to show their true colors.
>>
What if we say you aren't allowed to vote unless you've paid taxes for ten unbroken years leading up to whatever is being voted on?

That should keep most Leftists from voting until well into their 40s, as well as preventing immigrants from voting until they've had time to settle and contribute and also prevent societal leaches from having a say in important matters.

I think I'm on to something here.
>>
>>78577968
Allowing marriage is not an infringement of individual rights.
>>
>>78564776
What you're complaining about has been foreseen by the earliest thinkers on the subject, which is why we don't have literal democracies, but rather republics.

We elect people we deem to be worthy (wise, intelligent etc) who then govern on our behest.
We don't, for example, tell the average citizens where ISIS's strongholds are and how we should proceed and then put that to a vote. We elect people that are entrusted to make the smart choices.

I think you're against the notions of plebiscite and national referendums, because the uninformed public gets to vote and it's easy to screw things up with this kind of system.
>>
>>78578595
>What if we say you aren't allowed to vote unless you've paid taxes for ten unbroken years leading up to whatever is being voted on?
Boring, just go full right and say that you must serve in the army for X years and become a citizen.
Paying your taxes, when almost everyone does it, does not limit anything.
>>
>>78578873
I'm not saying it was. I"m saying that the run up to allowing it was.

I"m saying that until the Supreme Court recently decided that you couldn't deny marriage, states could deny them marriage.

Thus, the idea that we have a system wherein the majority cannot infringe upon the rights of the minority is demonstrably untrue. Unless, of course, you think this was the last thing and now it's perfect, which is silly
>>
>>78564776
This =/= Democracy
>>
>>78579105
Sure it does. When I say pay your taxes, I mean you actually owe something at the end of the year. This is a concept you are probably yet unfamiliar with my young friend.
>>
>>78579154
Well, no system is perfect. But I see your point. I'm just saying that we're not in a complete tyranny of the majority.
>>
>>78564776
>Democracy
>Not using based Republicanism
Too bad the UK will used that system
>>
>>78579374
>I mean you actually owe something at the end of the year.
Then you should've specified 'having debts' rather than just paying taxes, something basically everyone does.

>This is a concept you are probably yet unfamiliar with my young friend.
I just have a financial adviser do all the paperwork and pay everything for me. So I guess you're right in that I'm ignorant on what you're talking about.
>>
>>78579464
Not complete, but whether what we have or not is good enough is probably largely dependent on whether or not you are a minority and in what ways

perfect system is philosopher king btw
>>
>>78579657
No, taking your 4000 YTD income in T4s from your part time job to H&R block and having all your contributions refunded to you is not "paying taxes", its"filing taxes."

There is a big difference.
>>
>>78564776

>Women can't vote.
>Ethnic minorities can't vote.
>Mentally ill people (i.e. anything not straight) can't vote.
>People younger than 25 or older than 70 can't vote.
>The weight of your vote is proportional to your income.

There, I just fixed democracy.

Nah.

It should be,

>If you're a soldier: 2 votes
>If you own property or pay more than $100,000/year in taxes/have more than $200,000 in assets:5 votes
>If you're over the age of 30: 2 votes
>If you're not a first or second generation immigrant: 2 votes

>Everyone else: 1 vote

People who have no stake in the system other than their gibmedats should not be able to vote themselves more gibmedats. It's retarded. People who DO have a stake in the system, i.e. those who primarily fund the system or would be most affected by war/domestic instability, deserve more of a vote. Also, the young are completely retarded idealists who don't know what the hell is going on, have contributed nothing to the system until they're in their late 20s/early 30s, and haven't broken free from their indoctrination yet.
>>
>>78580175
So if you're a veteran non-immigrant over 30 who owns property you get 11 votes?

I like it
>>
How about people who pay taxes get more votes, because it's their money being spent? Bonus votes if they own property.

People in the army, and their families, get more votes because they're making bigger sacrifices for the nation.

People who score highly on IQ tests or have a higher level of education get more votes because they're brainiacs.

18-21 definitely get less votes because they're ignorant children, and 70+ might be a bit mental or out of touch so less votes for them unless they can demonstrate knowledge and intelligent analysis of current affairs.
>>
>>78564776
We need full fascism. Not this pleb white supremacist thing but real elite rule over the dumb masses.
>>
>>78579747
>philosopher king
That's idealized bullshit. It's still just a smart autocrat which although sounds efficient, actually isn't.

a strong democratic state + a high turnout voter base + good legislative + executive + judiciary + healthy rotation party taking charge government is best. (with the paradox of having a reduced but strong government)

Plus also a strong laisser faire capitalism but with actual oversight and regulation to not be excessive like in Scandinavia or some other nordic place I forgot the name that's rich and has limited government. (basically the nordic model)

This is the perfect system and state. The problem is that it's almost impossible to obtain without sheer luck and hard work. It's not as easy as just 'finding the right man for the job'.
>>
>>78580857
Fascism =/= Oligarchy
Also there is an oligarchy in every system. There's a term for it, but I forgot it.

You know, we used to have a really good system going where only land owners could vote.
And a certain class of people were worth only 3/5 a vote.

Maybe we should just go back to that?

It worked when everyone was poor as fuck, but now that the genie is out of the bag and capitalism has made the working class somewhat reasonably rich, they can't be pushed into not having a right to vote without mass riots.

The way the UK does it is hardly a good implementation, where each "county" or sub-area or wahtever the bong-term is, a single winner is proclaimed, basically ignoring the votes on the 'loser'.
That means Labour can hold the mandate majority, with only 37% of the votes.
It's moronic/british.
