I think it's unfair to entirely blame Obama for the result, however his attitude of trying to cow the British people into voting for US interests certainly didn't help the Remain side.

Honestly, both campaigns for this referendum were fought really badly.

It did help the Leave camp to begin with. It didn't directly lead to votes for Leave but it certainly started the ball rolling.
