Where do all these human rights memers come from? Britain remains a UN member and a Council of Europe member, and as such a signee to the European Convention on Human Rights, which on top of that has been codified into British law as the Human Rights Act.
Besides, the EU track record for human rights a shit. If anything, the US is now BETTER protected because the EU has not acceded to the ECHR and has regularly forced it's Member States to go AGAINST the provisions of the European Convention of Human Rights, in favor of the Autonomy of European Law and to not go against harmonisation of law, even if it would mean BETTER protection for the citizen concerned.. This goes directly against article 53 of the ECHR which allowes contracting parties to go BEYOND the minimum standard of protection the Convention offers. The CJEU (European Union Court) however, held in the Melloni case that EU Member States ARE NOT ALLOWED to offer better Human Rights Protection than the harmonised standard of the EU's case law, which happens to be a the MINIMUM level of protection the ECHR offers.
It's like people have no fucking clue how the EU, ECHR, UN and fundamental human rights regimes work and where they are situated...
