During the cold war era, if we ruled out nuclear annihilation of both parties I'd have said the US.
Today however, it's not that easy... The biggest problem right now with the US today is the national dissent. We've hit a point where if we had some standoff with Russia and it broke out into a full-scale war, we'd possibly see a lot of dissent across the country by the left. In-fighting and possible civil war-outbreak would be an issue. The main battleground would be Europe I feel.

It comes down to if nukes are used or not.
If nukes get used, MAD ensures and no one wins, if a pact is signed agreeing on no nuclear deterrents then the US would undoubtedly win.
Russia has no actual Navy besides their sub fleet which the US has a sub fleet just as capable as theirs, they have no REAL air force and what they do have is so much smaller than the force the US has it would only be a real threat at the beginning of the war, the US could overwhelm their air force with just numbers alone when it comes to that.
Not to mention the US technically has 2 air forces, the conventional USAF then the USN's air fleet, even the Marines have quite a few modern fighters at their disposal.
It comes down to the US simply having a better equipped navy and air force as well as simply having the numbers over Russia.
In reality if nukes were not used to only things the US would need to worry about is how to get around their SAM batteries and how to get around the problem of satellites being destroyed (which same goes for Russia).
Other than that the US would undoubtedly win in a modern war against Russia, even if it was taken to Russia itself, not going to say the US would be able to pull off a full on invasion and occupy Russia or some shit but Russia would undoubtedly lose a portion of their country much like what happened to Germany, at least for the duration of the war if nothing else.
A fuck ton of lives would be lost on both sides though, so it really isn't even worth it desu, nothing would be gained.
