Spear has reach. When you can reach your opponent and your opponent cant reach you, the advantage is heavily on your side. The person with the sword spends the entire fight trying to negate your reach, which you can undo his progress by stepping back or widening your grip on the spear.

Something that can be used one handed in close quarters is ideal, cutlass were used on ships because they were handy in close ranks on the deck or in tight quarters bellow deck. Anything with about a 24 in blade or smaller would work well, a cutlass, arming sword, wakazashi or any other short sword that you like

Spears are an absolute shit choice for indoor use. Short swords are far better if we're talking "anything but a gun" as they can be used without any "dead zones" while you're moving through your house. Meaning a home invader can't just hug the wall next to the door you're trying to get through and laugh his ass off while you sit there being useless as shit with your longass spear that can't reach him at that angle.
Clubs are a little better, but you need to specify what kind of length and such we're talking here. Golf club? Baseball bat? Mini bat? Shortsword's still the safer choice, since you can swing it to cut or slice at your opponent, or you can stab them with it. Whatever club you're wanting to use, a thrusting motion won't do anywhere near as much harm as a blade would, and it opens you up to the risk that they're going to just grab it and rip it free from your hands. That won't happen with a blade. So with clubs you're limited to swinging motions, wide ones if you want any kind of power behind it, and those are slow.
Still better if you're not a complete faggot and you just buy a gun or three.

A crowbar. A good swing is basically unstoppable unless they have a crowbar too. Theres no blocking it unarmed, your forearms arent made of steel. Even if your opponent is armed, t'll smash through anything made of wood and bend aluminium handles beyond usefulness, and the hook can be used to pull your opponents weapons and limbs around. The hook also serves to direct all the force into a TINY surface, so you can get some devastating blows.

Cold Steel gladius machete. It's like under 30 bucks. This style sword is perfect because it is double edged, has a sharp strong stabbing point, has a lot of weight in the tip so you can hack off a limb, and, if you get tackled, you can still stab the fucker due to it's relatively short length.

Lets say you're righthanded, making a downward swing. Your opponent parries the crowbar, driving it diagonally to the left (because they used their right hand). A crowbar is much heavier than even a very thick sword, so parries (especially barehanded ones) are much more diverting the blade rather than knocking it away. This means the crowbar ends up near the floor to your opponents right side, and you lurching foreward from your initial swing. You turn your grip around to the non-hooked side of the crowbar, and thrust it into your now-close opponents gut. Thats what I was talking about, continuing the flow of the attack.
And a crowbar is much better than a normal bludgeon like a baseball bat or sledgehammer because it's 100% steel (or titanium if youre fancy). Theres no handle to break, and its more durable overall. Also the curved hook is a major advantage.

Multiple (like 20, maybe more maybe less) sheets of denim or any heavy cloth coated in fiberglass epoxy would definitely be significantly resistant to projectiles. It's a single-edged blade, so meh. Double-edged European style swords will always be more versatile and superior to Asian single-edged swords. They're longer, can pierce armor more efficiently and reliably (b/c they are better at thrusting), have the capability to disarm foes with the cross, and can bash shields with the butt of the weapon (pommel). In that case, the crowbar wielder would just focus on making controlled, lighter strikes and attempting to disarm their opponent. A crowbar would be great for blocking sword attacks, since you can move it around much more quickly than a sword if you use both hands spaced apart along the crowbars shaft. Also, only a very heavy sword would be able to properly parry a crowbar, most swords (especially short ones, useful in indoors combat) are very light and just dont have enough mass to affect a crowbar when you've got a strong grip on it.

A crowbar, a lmedium size hammer, a steel pipe (50-60 cms) can do the job. A handaxe or chains are better, but you must know how to handle them to be useful.
