I remember a case where a man pushed a cop to the ground and the guy got sentenced to like eight years. The cop was fine. He wasn't seriously injured or anything, but the assailant got prison time for it.

Rape is actually VERY rare in most American prisons. There are a few areas/facilities where it's a bit of a problem (i.e certain prisons in California) but for the most part rape just doesn't happen much in prison these days.

Guys in prison who have sex charges of any kind especially against children have a VERY hard time in general population. Most of them go into protective custody, get put on a tier with a bunch of other sex offenders, or lie about their charges in general population until the get found out and either beaten/stabbed/killed.

I live in Oregon, and a guy I know had to spend a couple years in some low-security prison. Dude told me that he played cards a lot and had like fuckin' Spanish lessons. It sounded like a vacation.
I'm sure some shithole prison in Texas that houses really bad men could have instances of rape, but yeah it's probably rare. Prisoners can sue if the prison is failing to protect them from injury.

Yes, it does depend on the specific prison but in general rape is much much MUCH more rare than the average person thinks.
As mentioned for example, some prisons in California have a rape issue beyond that of nearly everywhere else in America but again, generally speaking rape essentially never happens in MOST prisons.
The way TV and movies and popular belief represents prison rape is soooo sooooooooo far from actual reality it's just absurd.

Yup. I'm experiencing not being able to get hired right now and I don't even have a felony.
I'm a software engineer and I worked on some stolen computers from burglaries (which at the time I had NO IDEA they were stolen)... I was basically helping out some family members of a girl I knew and fixed up some computers as a result. They got arrested for burglary and because the law doesn't care if a person knows something is stolen or not I got in trouble as well... Did 2 years in prison as a result (first time EVER being in trouble)...
I've been denied like 50+ IT jobs in the past 6 months... 7 different jobs GAVE ME START DATES to come work for them... I aced competency tests, beat out the other candidates and was given a start date to come start working... when they ran the background checks they all changed their minds even though I only have misdemeanors and told me not to come in...
Prison wasn't even that bad... the worst thing is boredom... most guys just sit around and either work out or do drugs. Rape is VERY VERY VERYYYYYYY rare... it actually kind of was like a boring "vacation"
