Depends, on the summer evening yes. Most of the time however not. I live in a renoavted commie block, new elevators, new elevation, new paint all flats are renovated so it's a nice place to live but i rember time when everything was still post commie. It has a special feel but it's not that comfy when you're living as a poorfag in a communistc country with no hopes for the future. There are far better places for comfy living that commie blocks.

Some cultural difference. As i understand on the west people usually rent apartment. In Russia it is different apartments belong to inhabitants. Only around 15% of Russians rent them. Thanks to Yeltsin during privatization he granted state owned apartments to their inhabitants. You may accuse Yeltsin in many sins but one thing he had. The big heart and ability to make genial moves worth of great kings of the past.

I'm personally not a fan of suburbs. They're no doubt comfy, but when I can afford my own place i'm going with either a nice apartment in the city or a comfy renovated townhouse in an inner-city suburb close to the CBD (as long as it isn't an extravagant price).

Some are only connected with small tunnels where the main pipes go. But you can get trough these if you need to.
Tho, many might be damaged as recently they dug up these pipes and I'm not sure if they repaired the tunnels or just put soil over it.

All rationalizations aside, the real reason for these commie blocks is because they are the absolute cheapest, most effective way to shove as many people into as little square footage as possible.
They minimize the amount of exterior wall while maximizing the number of inhabitants. When you live in a third world country, as all communist or socialist countries are, and the govt can barely afford the $0.30/hour wage construction workers make, you have to get the biggest bang for your buck possible.
I find it humorous how you losers are defending these shitholes. I would love to own one of these, can you imagine the cash flow? It would throw off millions a year and all I'd have to do to keep everyone happy is tell them some of the lies you've convinced yourself of.

Even in superior capitalist countries, they are built in city/geographical centers where real estate prices are highest. I have relatives in Orenburg that I visit once a year and stay for some time. It's pretty far from the two default cities but it's still looks rather nice and clean. Maybe you can find some depressing areas if try hard enough of course.
