How DEFCON Warning System Gathers Information

I think the most asked question today by the public towards DEFCON Warning System is where our information comes from. So i'm going to try and answer that here.
Mass Media
We have begun to understand that Mass Media, especially western media, is not going to be as reliable as they once were. They only report news which will get them ratings in bring in more viewership. That being said, a lot of our information now must come from non-western media outlets. A good example is shootings and Donald Trump. Western media will ring those two subjects as much as possible to elicit higher ratings. Reporting what happens in North Korea or with Russia would not bring as many ratings as what Donald Trump may have said at a rally. Although the news concerning North Korea or Russia is so important it could affect your well-being, it just doesn't bring good ratings until a massive event happens. Since our job as a warning system requires us to gather information and release that information, we have to use alternative sources more and more.
Intelligence
DEFCON Warning System has certainly grown from what it was back in the 1980s. We now have a full time staff and have our own sources within various governments, military's, and organisations. Much of what we do now is investigative reporting which Western Mass Media used to do a lot of concerning the subjects that concern us. Since we do most of our own reporting now, that means most of the information is going to come from one of 2 places listed below.
Open Source Information (OSINT)
This includes ATSB exchange, and other flight radars for monitoring aircraft military and civilian along with similar systems which monitor naval traffic both military and civilian.

Where we are most proud of is our ability to monitor military radio traffic on high frequency radio (ham radio). We have an amazing group of people who work with us to monitor radio traffic nearly 24/7. Although for the most part we do not know what is said, we can however decipher a few things; Who the sender/receiver is, what platform the sender/receiver is, where the sender/receiver is by cross referencing other information and using different techniques, and perhaps most important, the sender/receivers tone of voice and the intensity of the message along with how many messages are going out that day.
This intelligence system is at the forefront of our organisation, and we get better and better at using it each day.
Closed Source Information
Over the years, DEFCON Warning System has gained a few inside source which operate in many different governments, military's, and organisation throughout the world. We may and often do report some of this information and use it to determine our current status and stance on a subject. If for some reason we report information and do not source it, it is very likely that information was deemed important enough to be released to the public. We obviously can't source that information since it would compromise our sources. Most of the time, the information we do report on that is from our sources, slowly, but eventually, shows up somewhere in the rest of the media.
Summary
So you can think of DEFCON Warning System as an actual investigative reporting news agency which focuses on military movements of players around the world with the intent of warning the people in the U.S. of any action which may lead to nuclear war. We try our very hardest to be completely unbiased and report factual information. We never include opinions or try to hype anything, our reputation of being cool headed, factual, and calling the situation right speaks for itself.
We pride ourselves in being one of the only organisations in this field of work which has not succumbed to what is normally called "doom porn."
