Any fire arm is technically an assault weapon. You can't own automatic weapons without a class 3 license. This license gives the feds the right to kick in your door at any time and search your home for anything illegal or for evidence of you doing anything illegal.
This is why most people don't get a class 3. You also have to jump through a hell of a lot of hoops to get it as well.
Gun owners are generally very leery of government and the idea of them coming into our homes whenever they want is another reason why most people don't get them.

Sweden has really weird definitions of what counts as rape. If I recall correctly, if the condom breaks when you have sex, and she didn't say you could cum inside, it counts as rape. See: Julian Assange extradition case.
Plus they also encourage reporting more than any country. You can argue they probably have the most accurate number (sans those wtf cases), with the others being extremely underreported.

If you own a firearm, you can ventilate anyone threatening your life with it no dramas. You can't state that as your reason for owning one on your license application, but that's a different kettle of fish. The only difference is the duty to retreat and the use of deliberate lethal force to defend property rather than life isn't permitted. So if you wake up and see some scrote stealing your car off the driveway, you can't grab your shotgun and give him both barrels.

Likewise, another story misrepresented by the media was 'millionaire fights off house invader who tied up his family and is charged with assault!' when the reality was that his brother entered the house, untied him, then they chased the guy (who hadn't actually hurt anyone) down the street, dragged him back into the house, tied him to a chair and were working him over when the police showed up. Again, isn't self-defence, it's vigilantism/torture.

Fully automatic hand held rifles are a bitch to fire well. It takes a LOT of training and a very good rifle. But they still end up mostly being fired in burst mode.
Problems are:
1: Fire a mag in 3 seconds and your empty.
2: Have to have two other guys to carry all your ammo.
3: Typically pretty heavy rifle by itself.
4: If you fire at three hundred people with a full auto you are dead in about the four seconds it takes for every one of them to shoot back at you.
