Percentage of households with at least 1 firearm is a more useful statistic.
Somebody who owns 1 gun is just as capable of shooting another person as somebody who owns 10.
And theoretically anybody in a household with a gun could access that gun, even if it's in a safe since if somebody is really desperate to access the gun they could probably defeat the safe.
And I think the US percentage of households with at least 1 gun is about 33%. Which isn't that far from the norm.

Australia's firearm laws are a reflection of the national character. A cowed population living in a nanny state. It's a sad fact the majority of people here think it's just fine for the government to ban free speech, limit our rights to self defence and regulate every aspect of our daily lives.
The United States has the potential for greatness built into it's constitution. The right to free speech, and the right to access to firearms are not to be taken lightly. Letting criminals and the mentally ill get firearms isn't a great idea, but they are probably going to get hold of them if they really want them anyway.
One thing the retards here can't seem to understand is that when you outlaw firearms, only the criminals have them.
