It's very sad that George Washington Carver is pointed to as the Peanut Butter Man, when he was a legitimately ingenious man, whose REAL claim to fame was legitimizing the science of Chemurgy: Taking inspiration from folk usages of herbs and plants, and figuring out new, industrial-scale uses for those plants.
He was largely responsible for improving much of the farming practices of the south, and saved lots of farmers tons of cash by standardizing and figuring out the science and mechanisms behind folk treatments of soil and cheap substitutes for fuels and lubricants, and the like.

I think it's that by ignoring his duties as the plant manager, he's caused his workers to suffer because the plant wen out of business; someone has to handle management positions to keep things running smoothly, so you could say he's already helping people just by doing his job; those workers need him to do his job just as much as he needs them to do theirs.

It just implies that Trump is dumb because he doesn't toe the progressive line to a tee - that you have to accept mass Muslim immigration as something logical or necessary. It also downplays the fact that most terrorist attacks are by Muslims, and Mexican gangs bring a shit-ton of drugs and crime into the US. There is literally no reason to not build a border wall. It would cost the US less than 1% of its annual budget, accroding to a study by CNBC; and most of that would be paid for by tariffs on Mexican corporations. I don't know if he won other years because I really don't care. However, his work is public domain, and I reposted it here because it amused me. Profit can mean a variety of things. Logging companies already build their own roads entirely to transport their goods. But it could also mean roads with tolls or community non-profit roads built on donations (the community profits from its existence). Regulation is what creates these "slick bastards" though. Anti-capitalists always make the mistake of thinking that corporations in bed with government are the natural conclusion of a free market. Big corporations love regulation because it creates greater barriers to market entry. In an actual free market without government enforcement, the only way you can get and hold a monopoly is by offering the best product for the lowest price. If you're product is shit, people will leave. People do it all the time in this current market. If you are a large company who creates a monopoly and then proceeds to increase their prices, you will very soon get to a point where your prices are high enough that a small less efficient competitor can now compete with you. The only reason you had a monopoly is because your operation was so large that you were able to produce at a lower cost and subsequently charge a lower amount. When you stop doing that, you lose the monopoly.
I just don't get how people think these evil companies are going to fuck them in a free market? Even just look at the GFC, the large banks (and the GSEs) were aware that if they failed, the government would inevitably bail them out. They were also given artificially low interest rates. They don't take risks if there isn't something to protect them.
And then look at all the regulation that followed, regulation that just benefits the already large companies and makes entry harder for new companies. Just look at how many meat producers there were before meat regulations were introduced. Regulation creates artificial monopolies.
When your home or fire alarm goes off, why do you think your security company calls within 30 seconds? Because they want your business. Not because they are complying with the "good security act of whatever". Provide a good service or good and people will pay for it. It's not exactly rocket science.
