Everything that people says matters about race isn't actually tied to race at all. The creation of a race is actually symptomatic of what people are really talking about i.e. different cultures.
This is why the jews get away with saying they're a race. They had an incredibly insular culture and stayed with themselves and were fundamentally changed as a result. Usually race and culture go hand in hand but it's not a given.
