It's because you don't get. Many of the African countries today have a wide range of different ethnicities, races, cultures etc. as their population. These tribes or cultures often or not have had a long history of animosity towards each other before hand the Colonization. So when the countries where formed and the borders where drawn this people now had to live together and run the country from people they didn't like because of the former animosity. This is partly, some of the reason why there have been genocides in some of the African countries since the decolonization.
