>the workers own the means of production
That sentence makes no sense whatsoever. I've asked countless Marxists to explain that word-salad, none of them was able to concisely explain it.

IN PRACTICE, what does "the workers own the means of production" mean?

it means that without the workers, no work will be done. Capitalism dictates that someone will always be able to fill a position though so its wrong as fuck.
>>
>>77436863

Production efficiency and ease of use goes up, cost of inputs goes down due to technological innovation and efficiency, algorithms and automation reduce the need for active human participation in production....bada bing bada boom you have a restructuring of the economy where many goods and services can be produced by anyone rather than requiring advanced organizational structures. Smaller scales of production could eventually be more productive than larger ones for certain types of products.

It means you take responsibility for the factory's duties to the state.

That's ALL it means under communism. It does not mean you're free to do as you please with the product, because owners have no rights under communism. They're about the same as farmers in warring states era China.
>>
>>77437044
You're making no sense whatsoever.

I'll repeat myself. Hopefully it'll be clear this time.
IN PRACTICE, what does "the workers own the mean of production" mean?

And the people paying me that salary own those machines. The machines didn't come from thin air.
>>
>>77437156
Doesn't explain what the sentence means in the least.

>>77437184
That workers are now responsible if their machines breakdown and stuff? They're responsible for fixing them and so forth?

That's supposed to be "good" for the workers? What?
>>
>>77436863
It means everyone gets to be poor together.

Put it in practice.

I work in a textile factory.
Yesterday, the owner owned "the means of production".

Today, the workers own the "means of production".

What happened between yesterday and today? What's different?

Still doesn't explain "owning the means of production".
>>
>>77437529
the company goes out of business
>>
>>77438745
Lets say you work for a factory, the employees now own the company which owns the factory, and in turn, owns the machinery and equipment the factory employees operate to produce product.
>>
Workers own the means of production

workers : the people who work

work : input of energy and time

own : the act of ownership

ownership : to have inherent rights over an object

the means of production : the means by which you produce goods
Example:
there's a factory
30 workers work on it
they all share the profits of the factory equally
>>
>>77436863
After reading your responses you're obviously unable to understand your friends explanations because you're a goddamn retard.

It means that the workers own the means of production because they ARE the means of production i.e. you are important and powerful.
>Uhhh they're more workers to fill those positions ya know!
Yes which is why unionists take strikes so seriously. The phrase assumes "Workers Unite!".
>UUUUHHHHH what about muh automation checkmate!
it was written in the 1800's you fuck jesus.
>>
>>77437529
The factory falls to pieces because no one knows how to run a business, there is no reason to work jobs that require a lot of skill and education if you get paid the same as everyone else, and because there is no profit motive which leads to inefficiency
>>
>>77439075
How do they own it?
They signed a legal paper?
Who pays for it?
If the machine breaksdown, it's not the company but the workers who are responsible?

How in the hell does that help workers?

they don't get all paid the same

engineers earn more than blue collar workers

but since there's no businessman taking all the profit, literally everyone is better off
>>
Say you're in a gaggle of faggots at the faggot factory, and all ten of you swing shift felch-slurpers charge $100 for blowies. You, as a whole butthole battalion, earn $10000 for the day. Assuming prorated per diem overhead is $1000, the rectal rangers each take home $900 for the day.

It's a pooter paradise.

I wonder why no commies realized that Risk is a cost, and that some people are far more willing to take on Risk knowing full well that most businesses will not succeed.

How can they ignore such a fundamental fact that most people are unfit to manage a company and that most people (even many intelligent people like Doctors for instance) don't want the hassle of managing a business themselves. We happily fork over a share of our earnings to pay the owner for the cost of his Risk. How do people not outgrow communism by age 18? Is it because they are dumb?
>>
>>77439077
Wouldn't that still alienate them from the products of their labor?

yeah but most businesses fail
it could be better if you were latched on to one that was successful. But when it goes under (as most do) it's nice to be a worker.

It's the idea you have the right to steal someone else's property and then share it with your friends/co-workers.
You'll also get paid no matter what, so enjoy your inefficient system that kills motivation.

The most reasonable explanation/implementation of this I've seen is Syndicalism, where massive industry-wide unions take the place of corporations (and possibly government).
>>
>>77436863
It really just means the state owns the means of production. It's central planning. What don't you get?

Don't tell me you believe what commies say or think their ideas have any merit?
>>
>>77440312
Not really

It just means employee owned businesses of which there are many in this country and all around the world

The businesses still have a division of labor in that you have management and, let's say in the case of a grocery store, shelf stockers

It's just that everyone shares the profits and has a say in how the business should be run

It's really not that complicated
>>
>>77438131
It's almost as if we're on a website were oft-repeated phrases are repeated even more for comedic effect.

No one is being paid to shill for Hillary by the way. It's a Republican-funded lie and a pathetic attempt to smear her campaign. Let's dispel with this fiction that Hillary Clinton doesn't know what she's doing. She knows exactly what she's doing. OP is a fag, and longcat is long. Milhouse isn't a meme.

>IN PRACTICE, what does "the workers own the means of production" mean?
It means worker co-ops, where every employee owns an equal share in the business, and decisions are made by vote. This is, and has been, legal for a very long time. Commies can literally go out right now and start a co-op without any hassle or legal burdens beyond that of a normal capitalist business, but for some reason they'd rather cry about evil capitalism than actually practice what they preach. It's probably because the majority of workers don't actually give a flying fuck about owning the means of production, and selling their labor in exchange for money suits them just fine. Commies would understand this if they were actually part of their beloved proletariat and had worked a single day in their lives, instead of being sheltered college revolutionaries.
>>
>>77437529
Happened here.

It literally goes downhill, as the all the factories being owned by the government/state/muh workers hinders the development. Because of the planned production (especially if there are multiple countries involved), you decide what you want to produce beforehand, and there's very little possibility to improve it.

eg.: the oil crisises of 1973 and 1979 played a role in the downfall of communism, as the vehicles' technology was already decades behind the Western one.
>>
>>77441136
I think what a lot of commies don't understand is that the "wage slave" worker is insulated from risk. They already sold their labor, and now the burden is on the evil capitalist to make sure the product of that labor generates a return for him. If a factory shuts down, the line workers can go somewhere else. If a worker co-op factory where everyone is invested in the firm shuts down, the workers are fucked and might take personal loss. I'm willing to get paid a little less to ensure I don't need to worry about the logistics of me getting paid.
