- Libya seems to be slowly consolidating into a a single government and ISIS is getting rolled back.
- Moderate beheaders are looking increasingly weaker and rapidly losing support, might go for another diplomatic deal or flee to Turkey altogether
- ISIS is getting ground down on both fronts and has lost the strategic initiative. They have to rely on their enemies turning on each other or a stunning battlefield victory (which they seem less and less able to accomplish).
- YPG is relying on the Assadists and Turkey remaining enemies, but they may be putting aside their differences, in which case the Kurds are fucked.
- Yemen seems to be in that perpetual stalemate/ceasefire quagmire.

you have to remember that the West has no actual substitute for Assad, though.
First they supported ISIS, then Nusra, then FSA, and now SDF. each time the support a new faction it ends up failing. SDF by themselves are incapable of advancing and holding territory without airstrikes.

In Iraq, the Shia's amassed power, with then Prime Minister Al-malakai dismissing popular Sunni ministers.
Its a generallisation but the Sunni population's felt that the new government was biased and unfair against them, and that they were being marginalized.
This was the ember that ignited the birth of ISIS and ISIS' success can be attributed to the Sunni populations supporting them when ISIS entered Iraqi cities.
This sectarian divide is a major reason why the Iraqi army completely collapsed. Sunni soldiers didnt want to fight fellow Sunnis, so many fled before ISIS begun hostilities.
