I found this on twitter. I guess Peter Hitchens isn't the "based morality man" that people thought he was

We already know. I hate Peter's ignorance on Trump but that doesn't make what he says about British politics and the UK as a whole any less true.

I get the impression that he believes all the country's problems would go away if only more people were Christian.

I think Peter would be sympathetic to some of Trump's positions (trade protectionism, immigration, aversion to nation building, realistic approach to Russian) if Trump were able to convey them in a less agitative way.

Trouble is, nobody listens to quiet reason any more, so agitation is the only thing that will rouse the low IQ masses from their slumber.

He knows this, but can't bring himself to accept the practical necessity of supporting someone like Trump in order to make even the smallest of headways in solving massive, ingrained problems.

Going along with the victim-blaming crowd is pretty low, though. I suppose it's because he doesn't really follow American politics closely. That and the fact that supporting Trump in the UK is like admitting to being a steroid-enhanced Nazi.

He's right though

Peter has some views I disagree with, he clearly is in love with the idea of religious homogeneity over ethnic and his views on drugs don't sit well with me. I'm still a huge fan of the wor he does though

>>77331842
I pretty much agree with you. I really like most of Trump's policy positions. I struggle with how he presents them. At the same time though I like his conviction, his never say die attitude, and his irreverence. I still think he goes too far too often. Sadly I don't think he could be in the position he currently is if he hadn't been that way though. It's a tough one.

To add to that, the tone of his campaign does worry me slightly in terms of 'worst case scenario' if he did become president, while I think I have a read on the person Trump i, I do also have some reservations/fears that the media plays to. His tone has improved in recent weeks though, not that the media coverage reflects this. I've also really enjoyed his prepared speeches, they ease a lot of my worries.

Regardless of all that. If I was in the US he is the only candidate I could even consider voting for. The policies of the others are terrible for the most part, and in times such as now would make most things worse instead of better. Some of Trump's policies will cause heartache and issues, but in general they ARE the smart directions to take.
>>
>>77331538
You don't need religion to practice morality. In fact religious doctrine is very often immoral. Stoicism for instance is a good practice to follow for those who can't believe in the supernatural.

I voted for AV.

I don't mind the current Lords system, I just think there's too many of them. Turning the Lords into a senate will result in what they have in America, deadlocks between the upper and lower house. The Lords do a good job of block knee-jerk stupidity and they bring expert opinion into politics. The fact that the Parliament acts gives the Commons the means to overrule them when necessary maintains the democratic legitimacy. We don't need another chamber full of career politicians.

Peter Hitchens has sort of gone a bit crazy and it started in 1999/2000 with his book The Abolition of Britain. You can see how he gave up back then.

Also America has this weird concept called 'Fighting Words' which exempts people from being blamed for lashing out at language which would cause no other action but violence.

Quote from my friend about exactly this when I responded with what you said
>>
>>77335566
It is vitally important that the government is directly accountable to the people. If we remain, the EU is our supreme government and they are not accountable to us in any way. That's why they can sign treaties like TTIP selling off public services like prisons, water, even the NHS to corporations and giving those corporations carte blanche bleed us all dry. They have no fear of the people they govern so corporate lobbying is all they respond to. If you vote remain, you'll never get that power over your rulers back. We will never be asked again.
>>
>>77333016

Have these people looked at literally any comments section on any piece of material relating to the issue.

>>
I think we're gunna leave lads. Honestly.

If 70% of the GE's Labour voters and 50% of the GE's Tory voters got leave, I reckon we'll see a 55% leave victory.
>>
>>77335566
If we leave, we'll experience a shrift, sharp shock, and there'll be a few years of restabilizing, readjusting, learning to govern ourselves again. It'll be a bumpy ride There'll likely be an immediate constitutional crisis, as 3-1 MPs favour staying in the EU, and there are a lot of indicators they'll put up a work. If we stay, however, we're in this godless anti-democratic political experiment whose every handling of every crisis has been the worst one possible. The migrant crisis and the Greek bailouts primarily were used to benefit the economic elite in Germany, and everyone else across Europe suffers the consequences. There are more bailouts down the road. There's probably Turkey membership. There's rummages of an EU army. The EU has fucked up time and time again, and staying in that hellish organization is far than dangerous than voting Exit. Exit is the sensible choice.
>>
>>77335761
>>77335821
I honestly don't know what the EU was thinking it could have put this to bed if they had even appeared to be cooperative. But it came across as nobody was bothered about what we did; so it rings a bit hollow now they all beg us to stay.

The Cognitive Dissonance is astounding. Most of the Remain voters I know are simply doing so because they see the EU as being a limitation on the Tory Government, never mind the fact that the two biggest snakes in the party (Cameron and Osborne) support Remain. Clearly staying in the EU isn't as conductive to the Tory interest as lefties seem to think.

Latest facebook propaganda from the remain side:

A good friend of mine came up with a great idea. If you don't have the time/inclination to find out all the facts about the EU referendum (I don't blame you) and are possibly unsure which way to vote, perhaps knowing how other notable people are thinking could help out.

Here are a few that strongly believe the UK should remain a member of the EU:

• Governor of the Bank of England
• International Monetary Fund
• Institute for Fiscal Studies
• Confederation of British Industry
• Leaders/heads of state of every single other member of the EU
• President of the United States of America
• Eight former US Treasury Secretaries
• President of China
• Prime Minister of India
• Prime Minister of Canada
• Prime Minister of Australia
• Prime Minister of Japan
• Prime Minister of New Zealand
• The chief executives of most of the top 100 companies in the UK including Marks and Spencer, BT, Asda, Vodafone, Virgin, IBM, BMW etc.
• Kofi Annan, the former Secretary General of the United Nations
• All living former Prime Ministers of the UK (from both parties)
• Virtually all reputable and recognised economists
• The Prime Minister of the UK
• The leader of the Labour Party
• The Leader of the Liberal Democrats
• The Leader of the Green Party
• The Leader of the Scottish National Party
• The leader of Plaid Cymru
• Leader of Sinn Fein
• Martin Lewis, that money saving dude off the telly
• The Secretary General of the TUC
• Unison
• National Union of Students
• National Union of Farmers
• Stephen Hawking
• Chief Executive of the NHS
• 300 of the most prominent international historians

One proximate cause might be Trump, but the ultimate cause is the Quran which teaches people that Jihad is an answer to their problems. If you don't remove the ultimate cause, you will never stop terrorism. There will always be reasons why people go astray. As long as violence is provided as an acceptable answer to their problems by their holy book and their preachers, they will go that way.

• Director of Europol
• David Anderson QC, Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation
• Former Directors of GCHQ
• Secretary General of Nato
• Church of England
• Church in Scotland
• Church in Wales
• Friends of the Earth
• Greenpeace
• Director General of the World Trade Organisation
• WWF
• World Bank
• OECD

Here are pretty much the only notable people who think we should leave the EU:

• Boris Johnson, who probably doesn’t really care either way, but knows he’ll become Prime Minister if the country votes to leave
• A former Secretary of State for Work and Pensions who carried out a brutal regime of cuts to benefits and essential support for the poorest in society as well as the disabled and sick
• That idiot that was Education Secretary and every single teacher in the country hated with a furious passion for the damage he was doing to the education system
• Leader of UKIP
• BNP
• Britain First
• Donald Trump
• Keith Chegwin
• David Icke

So, as I said, if you can’t be bothered to look into the real facts and implications of all this in/out stuff, just pick the list that you most trust and vote that way. It really couldn’t be more simple.

And if you are unsure about leaving, don't.

Please repost this list, if you think it might help.

It's fairly well documented, even in the dictionary:

http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/little-englander

If I remember correctly it was first used as an insult around the Second Boer War for people who thought it was wrong to send the army to kill Dutch farmers in Africa.

My response was to make my own post, I make one every few days anyway

"Look at this list of celebrities, multimillionaires and politicians that directly benefit from being in the EU and are in some cases part of institutions within the EU itself.
They all want you to stay in!
Coincidence?
Don't formulate your own opinions, just use ad hominem fallacies to make one of the most important political decisions of not only our lives, but that of generations into the future as well.
You're not a mindless bigot are you?
Afterall, 3 million smokers can't be wrong!"

What I'm getting at is that people are fucking idiots. The uncomfortable truth is that religion acts as a doctrine that people are afraid of defying.

You don't need religion to be moral, but irreligion has lead to utter ambivalence to marriage and good behaviour.

If you think you can simply convince people to stop being selfish idiots, you will fail.

The Abolition of Britain is actually a pretty solid book.
I used to have a lot of admiration for Hitchens, but he seems to be a deliberate contrarian.
He blamed the Pulse shooting on the gunman being on steroids.

they don't realise how important this referendum is.

There's a video doing the rounds on Facebook, saying "For every pound you put into the EU, you get 10 pounds back"

I'm almost 100% certain that it's complete bollocks but I'm unable to come up with a concise reason why. Any help?
>>
>>77338447
He's morally opposed to pretty much everything. He's an ultra-conservative. I like watching him, but his tendency to blame every crisis on drugs is absurd
>>
We won't leave.

The most recent poll boost will be for very weak leavers - the threats they will get out in the next week will make them change their minds and stick with remain for safety.

We need at least a 7 point lead going in to polling day to win.

The electoral commission is preparing for 80% turnout, too. That will hurt us.

I think the Labour vote is going to win us the referendum. They've been fucked the hardest.

Since they pretend to care about the economy, tell them Britain's GDP hasn't grown since 2006 (inflation adjusted). You can even use The Guardian as a source; they won't be able to dismiss it coming from a liberal rag.

http://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2009/nov/25/gdp-uk-1948-growth-economy

Europe's economy is stagnant. Outsourcing and low-skill immigration is only making things worse.

Sorry for not being more specific. The actual quote from the video is:

"For every 1 pound we invest in the EU, We get almost 10 pounds back in low prices, jobs, trade, growth and investment"

As far as I knew, EU regulations increased prices here - or is that a misconception?
