You really should read some history
Some of the founders wanted to equip theur armed forces with 15 shot semiautomatic air guns over muskets but couldn't because of cost. Letters between ship captains who owned fully armed warships(the most powerful weapon of the era) asking if the second amendment protected their right to own such things and the founders responded with the equivalent of "why the fuck wouldn't it?"
They specifically used the term "ARMS" to protect all arms present and future.

Laws exist for the State to punish those who violate them.
Laws are not meant to be preventative by outlawing things based on "what someone might do".
Laws in a free society should only cover actions that violate the life liberty and property of another against their will.
