I teach the Constitution for a living. I revere the document when it is used to further social justice and make our country a more inclusive one. I admire the Founders for establishing a representative democracy that has survived for over two centuries.
But sometimes we just have to acknowledge that the Founders and the Constitution are wrong. This is one of those times. We need to say loud and clear: The Second Amendment must be repealed.

Put the NRA back in its place, get state and federal government some balls and get some decent oversight, gun shop audits (hardly even gun control -- just enforcement of existing laws would be a huge step -- gun shops aren't even required to keep purchases on the books in some jurisdictions).
No end user shit except in urban centers -- I think the Chicago law's nullification by SCOTUS was the one area where the Constitution actually got in the way of something that *may* have made a difference. Usually local jurisdictions are given a lot of leeway on the Constitution, but it's annoying to say Chicago couldn't unilaterally ban handguns from the city.

Are you unaware of how an addition to an amendment works?
Congress proposes it, gets a two-thirds majority vote in the House of Representatives and the Senate, or a constitutional convention can be called if 2/3rds of all states agree to it.
Not going to happen, and if it somehow did I can guarantee you the police and military would simply just refuse to do it. Hell, all members of the military do lawful order training that is specifically designed to make the military implode if the government does this. (I'm not joking either, within a week the "US Military" would consist of a bunch of heavily trained men with guns running around and battling other heavily trained men with guns while 'ol vlad rubs his hands and watches).
Plus, nobody will give a shit about the change to the second amendment either. If you pick up a history book or google some quotes from the founding fathers, it's heavily apparent that the repealing of the second amendment is grounds for a full on head chopping ball stomping revolution.

It doesn't even end there. After an amendment gets passed by congress with a 2/3 majority, in order to bypass the convention it must then be ratified by at least 38 states before a set deadline. The Equal Rights amendment in the 70s tried to do this and failed miserably. It got around 30 states to accept it but then failed as the deadline expired.

They could, in theory, add an amendment to nullify the second and put in place federal level gun control. The precedence (one of the most important thing to snakebag lawyers getting their way) is there with the 21st amendment nullifying the 18th amendment.
The difference is that nullification of the 2nd amendment would create worse problems than the 18th amendment ever did, assuming a civil war didn't break out almost instantly if they tried it.

If they made a sudden ruling based on the liberal meme that well regulated means the national guard (not just well armed which is what it truly means ) they'd cause national chaos. The Supreme Court has no enforcement mechanism, that's for the executive branch. And the president technically needs a law by Congress to enforce, but he could also cause national chaos by executive order. And of course congress could pass a law that defies the will of the people and cause national chaos.
What I'm getting at is that government can really do whatever it wants. But it risks civil war by going to hard. A very real threat because the populace is armed to the teeth. about two decades ago a very activist Supreme Court judge started interpreting shit, and started letting the courts decide in things they have no business deciding on. the activist judges progressively got more and more bold, going as far as overruling parliament decisions and government decisions
since the Israeli Supreme Court is very far-left and the Supreme Court pretty much gets to choose its judges without any democratic process, they're a real menace here.

in the US the supreme court basically assumed the ability of "judicial legislation" with the after the Judiciary Act of 1789. It's not really a power that the condition actually gives them, and at any point the executive branch can tell them to fuck off. In fact Andrew Jackson did exactly that after the Worchester vs Georgia ruling: "You have made your decision, now let us see you enforce it" Jackson still fucked up the Indians after the Court told him not to.
