Florida (Orlando) resident with a CCW here. Any place like clubs or bars restrict carrying. So yes, it is a gun free zone.

Also, it's hard to carry a gun when

Maybe if the shooter was made more aware of the fact it was a gun-free zone he would have agreed to surrender his weapons in accordance with the law and this tragedy wouldn't have happened.

State law. Any establishment that makes it's primary income on alcohol sales (very vague) is off limits. So figure every club and bars that don't also serve a lot of food. Ale House may be ok, but some small bar that also serves food may not be ok.
