Its a bit grainy and dark but the smoke affects are really good, the position of the flag is really good as well.

Allegedly the soldiers did it once before but it was not nearly as "cinematic" so the Soviet Authorities had it taken again and touched it up. For example the smoke is darker and the Hammer and Sickle was lightened up to create more contrast then the original.

The entire right side of that picture looks pasted on with that weird bleach white outline around it. The lighting is really strange too.

The picture was taken for Soviet propaganda
They had to take the picture a second time because the first time it was taken the man waving the flag (who was a Kazakh not Russian) had his arms covered in watches that he had looted from downtown Berlin.
