Europe is the perfect example of successful heterogeneity. Culture is more important than race and Europe has a very large number of distinct cultures packed into a relatively small landmass. Christianity is an idea that spread from the middle east and split into so many sects its impossible to keep track of, one of the reasons it was so successful in Europe was because it was highly adaptable to local traditions. The biggest schism was the reformation which paved the way for the renaissance which was a resurrection of Greek ideas that were preserved by Arabs and spread by European aristocrats who came from wildly different cultural and religious backgrounds. Add in the plethora of European empires that thrived by adopting the best ideas of conquered peoples and then factor in the colonial period where Europe flourished by trading with and conquering foreign cultures and again taking the best ideas and integrating them with their culture. The success of Europe is heterogeneity in action.
