Yes. Unless he could wipe out essentially all leftists, (and without making it obvious) which he couldn't, he only made things worse.
Most people do not want to kill idiots who disagree, and thus will be far more protective and sympathetic to their ideals. So in other words it is much harder to be against Muslim immigration, because people will say "Breivik, Hitler, etc."
