A lot of people appreciate him doing this -- because they are disgusted at how every other politician reflexively discards any ideas that did not originate from within their own party.

No other politician has the balls to do that -- they are too timid to suggest anything other than small incremental changes to the political system. Many Americans have had enough of waiting for decades for small incremental attempts at change, and they want real action now.
A lot of Trump supporters realize that we're rolling the dice big-time by putting him in as president. Because of his "tear-it-all-down" attitude, he has the potential to do amazing things that no other politician could possibly do. But the Trump experiment could also fail miserably -- for example, he might encounter extremely fierce resistance from Congress and foreign leaders. This whole system is enabled by said deficit spending and ridiculous trade pacts. Of course, people like me have made a shit-ton of money and, most of my colleagues are spending substantial money on those candidates who will not interrupt this system.

There's a disconnect between Washington and the average citizen. Part of it is that to run a country of 370,000,000 people requires a decent amount of actual bureaucracy, which takes effort to understand that most people don't care or have time to expend.
Those who do understand and furthermore get active (along with some actual idiots) in politics get an outsized share of influence. This includes people who work in D.C. and State governments and are something of an "inner crowd" Like any group that spends much working/interacting time together, they end up thinking similarly. This "bubble" contributes to the disconnect.
Trump, though acquainted with this crowd, does not act like them (for better or worse). people on the outside latch onto him because what he says connects with them.
