I just graduated. This is the 3rd picture like this Ive seen on /pol/. Every time Ive had a higher rank (like that fucking means anything) a higher GPA, and higher test scores the one time they mentioned that. The only thing they consistently beat me at is how much scholarship money they get. I cant describe how infuriating it is to go on /pol/ and be shown examples of people with worse credentials than yourself who are given more money because they're minorities and Im a white male, and to top it all off they're illegal immigrants. However,in highschool you have 2 GPAs, weighted an unweighted.
Unweighted is 0 to 4 and is what most people consider. Weighted is 0 to 5 because it considers honors and Advanced Placement courses. So it's possible to have a higher than 4.0 weighted GPA if you take a bunch of advanced classes. It's only important for applying to college though, in the real world it's a 0 to 4 scale.

It's actually possible. There are 18 states that currently allow illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition. Of those 18, 6 states also allow the illegals to receive at least some form of state financial aid. Texas is one of the 6. The kid in OP seems to be from Texas, so the story fits.

Did you actually apply for a lot of scholarship money? I dated a Mexican (who was a citizen mind you) and around the time we dated her brother was graduating high school. Every time I saw him, he was writing letters and essays trying to get more grants and scholarships. Not just the form, he would write a personal letter to the foundation and multiple thank you letters. Kid put in a lot of effort, their family wasn't well off and with two kids already in school, were stretched pretty thin finically. The amount of effort he put in is common in kids of first generation immigrants from what I've noticed. My answer is no. There should be standards for immigration. I just feel we should take a second look at those standards to make sure they're not too stringent.
Immigration control needs to have more options between "let's close the border and build a wall" to "let's let everyone through" because what we have right now is not working. If people can't get in legally, they'll find a way. If we want people to only come in legally, we need to help them find a way.
