I stopped work to take care of my son exactly a year ago. His mum and I split ages ago, had been sharing custody. He's severely disabled, needs 24 hour care, can't dress, toilet, clean himself. If you qualify for youth allowance, you should be on youth allowance.
Don't think of the money as coming out of your parent's taxes, think of the money as coming out of the taxes you'll pay in the future when you have work. Growing up I always got free/reduced lunch for school. For about a year when my mother lost her job she got food stamps.
As an adult I have not asked for any government assistance. The only thing that might count would be FAFSA grants because they force you to sign up for it in order to enroll in university classes. She told me I wasn't getting 'something for nothing'. I know people will bash me here for this, but try to get online web/software development work. You won't need to turn your head and you can make a lot of money. If you are new, there are lots of resources online. Use my flow: Read about something (a language, a library, etc.), try it (using examples provided for instance), modify it / play with it, and read more about it. This generally works pretty well for picking up programming languages.
You can use sites like UpWork and Freelancer. There will be people who would offer you equity in return for work. First 2 years, the answer to that is No since 99% you will waste your time. After 2 years, as you gain more experience, you should consider those.
Note that some jobs might end soon, but some might actually stretch long. I've been on a job for almost 2 years now making steady income.
