I'm from Alabama for reference and I've noticed people often have a warped sense of what is urban/ in a large metro area and what is rural and what you might actually define as country.
I've met many people from suburbs of Birmingham (our biggest city) who seemed to think they were small town country people when they were barely outside of an urbanized area living in mcmansions stacked together in half acre lots
Personally I would call the real country people the ones that live in the middle of nowhere on farms and have to go out of their way and drive like 30 minutes or so to find a well stocked grocery store, while the former mentioned people can get to five grocery stores and trappings of yuppie consumerism like starbucks and chipotle and Paneras in a 3 minute drive from home aren't really what I would consider "country"
