>not being a skilled tradesman

Why aren't you working in the only occupational field that is uncuckable?
>>
>>76149571
people who do this shit barely make 15/hr bro
>>
>>76149571
>work with spics all day
Uncuckable my ass
>>
>>76149571

>working with degenerates

No thanks guy.
I did my time in the trenches and I won't go back to working with addicts, retards. and ex-cons.
>>
No thanks. I likelike makeing more money working in an office.
>>
>>76149712
Military?
>>
>>76149596
Maybe in shitty places and only during apprenticeships. Journeyman plumbers here make ~$35/hr on average.

>>76149651
>spics
>skilled trades

Are you retarded? They do unskilled manual labor. Hardly any of them are certified tradesmen.
>>
>>76149712
>addicts, retards. and ex-cons.

Addicts and ex-cons have no chance of becoming licensed by the state. Apprenticeships have background & drug screenings. You also need a pretty clean driving record since a lot of the sector has technicians going to various sites.

>>76149730
Boring
>>
Even if you're unskilled, anyone can get a job with a fucking railroad and they'll pay you during training too.
>>
>>76149795

Nope, at least the military has the decency to disqualify the ex-cons.

>>76149807
Spics are starting to creep their way into the skilled trades too.
>>
>>76149651
Yeah in general construction.
Like 85% of the people I work with are white. But I work as a overhead lineman.
>>76149596
I started at $23/hr. I know my union starts helpers at $15/hr. But you only work for 4days and you have school on the 5th.
>>76149730
>Tfw I make more than the engineers who design electrical grids and draft our blueprints
Feels good man.
>>
>>76150070
even in america? railroad doesn't sound bad. although i imagine they work 10-15 hour days 6 days a week
>>
>>76149916

>Addicts and ex-cons have no chance of becoming licensed by the state. Apprenticeships have background & drug screenings.

AYY I've seen journeyman and apprentices alike that would show up to sites reeking from the night before. And drug screenings don't mean shit when the foreman lets clean apprentices drop pee for the fuck ups.
Even the foremen are just glorified prison guards and tard wranglers.
>>
>>76150225
Yeah bro. My friend got hooked up with TCU and they paid him to get his cdl. He makes $36/hr fucking with railroad signals. And he is only 22.
>>
>>76150225

Running trades a pretty slow right now but should pick up by fall. They hire heavy duty mechanics, car repairmen, equipment operators, and conductors here with no prior experience.

I'm a locomotive engineer. When I show up for work they have us up to ten hours. Sometimes we're done earlier. We're paid by the mile so you earn the same amount regardless. You can take 24 hours off after every shift if you really want.

Not a job for someone with kids or a family, but for a young guy that doesn't need a set schedule it's awesome.
>>
>>76150349
still workin on my ged but ill def look into it. id the free traininga thing too or just a meme?
>>
>>76149571
yes
go into electrical work for decent pay/working conditions and good job security against robots
>>
>>76150500

Not a meme, they just make you work slave hours.
>>
>>76150265
That sounds like a special anecdotal case.

Go ahead, try getting an apprenticeship anywhere in the country while pissing hot and/or having a criminal record. It won't happen.

>Even the foremen are just glorified prison guards and tard wranglers.

By "foremen" you mean masters, right? And no, we don't take care of the guys under us. They hand us our tools, shut up, and learn on the job/in the classroom.

Your parents are better examples of tard wranglers.

>>76150070
>>76150349
Railroad work in the US is pretty volatile. Layoffs happen all the time.
>>
>>76150500
Yeah they paid for his.
I got my cdl by spending 8 months in coon corps so there is also that if you want to go live for free.
>>
>>76150634
>fuck up once
>crispy
>>
>>76150689
Yeah, it's volatile if you work non-union. But those union railroad folk are fucking spoiled. They have almost double the benifits I do as a union lineman.
>>

>>
>>76149571

22 here, working for a general contractor right now at $15/hr, but hoping to be a union carpenter eventually.

It's pretty good work. Exercise, some fresh air, don't have to worry about annoying female coworkers.
>>

Cool story. I work as a kitchen & bath designer and our business should pull at least ~400K in profits this year. I own 50% of the company. We are expanding soon and those cucked tradesmen we hire aren't making nearly as much.

If you want to be compensated well, start a business with high margins and work hard to get clients over the years. It's the best path to wealth imo.

Could be accounting, legal work, software services, or whatever just avoid any debt early on so you can escape wage slavery and work for yourself.

I worked for a large design firm till 28yo and wish I got out sooner. Am 31yo now.

>>76149651
get a trade that requires brains and you wont have to deal with them
>>
>>76151024
Conventional or CNC? Idk much about cnc but I hear decent enough. Like mid thirties an hour. If you're smart as a mechanic you'll get into a power plant as a maintenance mechanic or similar trade /workplace and you can get compensated very well. I was a nuts and bolts mechanic making 70k in NYC and swapped into ops after passing the test. Make 110k base after built in overtime and night shift differential. Ops is rotating 12s but maintenance is straight days.
>>

>>76152482
Unless they have a doctorates or dual masters then nope. Ive had coworkers make 233k the year new Orleans got hit by katrina but they where working 70hr weeks. But if I can become a foreman of a helicopter lineman crew then I will definitely still make more than most of them ever will.
>>
>>76153138
You wanna go union. Figure out what trade seems cool. Electricians and plumbers are versatile and work in cool places. Steam fitters and millwrights do cool stuff as well. Elevator constructors are versatile and make more money than anyone I know in NYC and maybe California. Stationary engineering is cool because you're a jack of all trades. Google for a union apprenticeship in your area. Like ibew "your state" locations. If you're in a right to work state I don't know. Probably craigslist searching for apprenticeship or helper positions where you're fucked wage wise because there aren't unions.
>>
What is the most in-demand trade? I know electricians are saturated as fuck now
>>
>>76155342

Listen to this guy >>76152170 and start your own business and let the trade cucks do all the heavy lifting while you reap the benefits.
If 4chins is anything to go by you could make a killing designing and building cucksheds constructed using strictly artisan techniques.

>>
>>76155342
Only residential ones are. Specialized industrial and power lines need people really bad since all the boomers there are retiring. But boilermakers and wastewater are two more I can think of.
>>76153344
My company is starting to give sign on bonuses for journeyman lineman now since there isn't enough people to do that anymore since all the a class are all quiting.
>>
>>76155544

>>
>>76151226

>>
>>76155736

>>
>>76152170

>>
>>76156054
Do good work
Be reliable
Charge a fair price (note that a fair price does not imply a low price -- as a matter of fact, you can fuck yourself by doing jobs for cheap)
Network...get buddy buddy with general contractors (dunno if y'all have the same kind of thing, but they're the guys over construction projects in the US), designers, plumbers, and just in general
Always. Be. Closing.
>>
Because I don't want to be around working class people.
>>
>become specialised in a low IQ field
Why would you do that?
>>
So how do you get into this stuff? The way I hear it you just sign up with the union, they have some kind of interview / aptitude test and then when a spot is open for you they start you on some combination of training and wage.

Is that correct, I don't have to start by going to college or even trade school? I can just sign up and start with some combination of entry-level work and classes (that you also get paid for)? That sounds sweet. I've been working in IT for 10 years and just got up to 17/hr, but I'm really sick of it.
>>
>>76156663
because skilful workers cost shit tons of money, low IQ field or not.

There are tradeskills that garner respect because they require skill and/or expertise that consumers generally want.

Really, really considering it at this point. I never even wanted to go to college. I'm a technician by (personal, not professional) trade despite being a student as well.

I'm a guy who appreciates fixing things and maintaining them (primarily in the electronics department). Unfortunately for me, a trade wasn't (isn't) exactly viable for me as I live where there's no place I can just sign up for one.

The one that I really really want to do is Elevator Technician (who also make the most on average for most trades according to the BLS), but there's nowhere I can go to do that within a 50 miles of me.

I don't know. Basically college sucks ass and I just want to do some honest, skilled labor.

IT bro here as well. Can confirm that Tier one is total fucking shit, and I actually started (currently working) upper end tier one, not basic bottom of th barrel tier one.

I'm not just a helpdesk jockey, I also have admin rights to many of the servers and partial admin rights to the domains of my college, plus I can access the servers and switch closets if need be. But even with all that it isn't all that great.

Honestly, and I say this extremely emphatically, the worst aspect of tier one IT is basically the interaction with customers. Customers are the fucking bane of my existence as they are for just about every IT professional. What's great about Tier Two and Tier Three is that you almost never have interact with customers unless you're a manager.

Unfortunately the way you get up to tier two and three is not always by hard work and tenacity. IT is an extremely networked field. The best way to get in is to know others already in, and once you're in you begin networking again immediately and getting to know people across departments, across companies so that you always have a path to traverse through.

Anyways, just giving an industry tip.

I work in IT now but I always wished I went the trade route. I'm by no means an expert at anything but I can hold my own when it comes to brick laying, plastering, electronics, woodworking, plumbing and probably a few other things. I used to uave a more manual job where it was mostly heaving lifting but I'd do a but of ad hoc DIY when it was needed and I miss it, my hands are too soft nowadays.

I think even if you don't work a trade you should at least be familiar with how some things work so you're not completely useless.
>>
>>76158403
I've always been annoyed by the "condescending attitude towards users" thing. I worked in a retail computer shop for years and now do helpdesk. At first I could have trouble with customers as I was new to it, but I never had this "I can't believe how stupid the user is" attitude.

If you're in IT working with users, your job is to help them. It's not their job to understand how the technology works. If they did, you wouldn't have a job helping them. I even like the stupid questions. They're the easiest to resolve and make the user think you're a genius.
>>
>>76158984

You have to keep in mind that the field is saturated with autists and social rejects so of course they'll complain about having to deal with actual human beings.

Oh believe me, I interact with most of my customers just fine, and I always give them quality service. But that still doesn't mean that I can't call them fucking idiots when they're gone, because they literally fucking are. They almost never have any idea what they actually need, much less want and I end up having to do THEIR work in addition to mine.

You sound like a noobie to the profession, or maybe you've just a heart of gold, but when you've got customers coming in asking for literally impossible things, or request after request after request, coming directly to me as opposed the proper channels like they're SUPPOSED TO, it becomes tiring and fast.

Look, I understand that most people aren't really that adept at technology (despite being surrounded by it fucking 24-7), but a lot of times you get customers coming to YOU for help, and then get indignant and defensive when you correct them and try to push that they're right and you're wrong. If a customer is polite and doesn't attempt to pretend that they know what they're talking about (when the vast majority of the time they don't), then I have no issues with them.

I personally think that you either haven't been in the industry long enough, or you just live in an extremely nice area, but trust me, eventually you will start to see patterns and you will slowly grow to hate a lot of people.

How's bluecollar trade is seen in west, especially with regards to status? Does it have any lower class reputation?

Plumber here.

I make $28/hour Canadian.

Once I get more experience I'm going off as a private contractor at $60/hour.

In the US EE jobs are predicted to either stagnate or decline over the next decade, there are more EE graduates than EE jobs, and around 50% of people with an EE degree sunny work in the field.

Shit is rough, I'm glad I'm a substation electrician desu

Lol, nice try with the bait. You'll never get paid six figures per year from a trade school, and even if you do, my college degree guarantees me a job where I earn at least $205,000 per year.
>>
>>76158403
guess I got lucky then
started off at a company where a friend of my dad's is in a management position, initially I was just frontline helldesk but I got past that shit fairly quickly
currently tier 2, in charge of part of the VMWare infrastructure and one of the distribution closets
pretty nice gig, sit in the back all day tinkering with this and that, getting things running as smoothly as possible etc.
zero interaction with users except when somebody's internet goes down, then they make a big fuss and I pretend to do something about it until it starts working again
most strenuous thing I've done in recent memory is an emergency rebuild of part of the cluster after a double headcrash
God bless RAID 60, fuck shitgate

My wife works because if I die, my life insurance policies won't cover her and the kid for their rest of their lives. Maybe 10 or so years at most. The point is, I want her out and able to provide for herself in case something does happen to me. She's not making peanuts either. She's north of $60k and were in Atlanta - which is good for this market.

We're able to set out work schedules so we have plenty of time at home. We usually do 4 work, 3 off weeks. My mom is semi-retired and practically begs to baby sit the kid.

But yeah - your wife should work in this day and age unless you've got a massive ass life insurance policy or your retirement account is already nearing 7 figures.

kurds do the really menial tasks, more like proletariat than blue collar.

I think blue collar work has a far worse reputation here due to the fact that you can be a plumber-welder etc in west and earn a decent amount. Thats not the case here, maybe thats why turks push everyone to college (though they don't make much either)

I've been in a computer store front desk for 6 years and then a small business helpdesk doing internal and external support for 3 years. I feel like I've seen enough bad customers, but I'll accept that some have seen worse.

The thing for me is I don't care if they're pretending to know what they're talking about or if they have an attitude. It's just a problem to be solved either way. It doesn't serve me any to connect it to them as a person and get upset myself.

What I've found is that if you get upset, they will get more upset as they'll sense that you're not in control. If they are acting like an asshole but you remain calm, they will eventually apologize. It all depends on you controlling the tone of the interaction, but not by escalating. If you escalate, you're responding to them in the wrong way. You need to project calm and competence and if somebody is getting upset, you have to show you're paying attention to them, but also that you're not intimidated by them.

You will take an aptitude test and get on a ranked list. IF YOU DO WELL ENOUGH and are lucky, you'll get called into an interview and they adjust your rank. It's hard as hell to get in, LOTS of nepotism. Look somewhere else honestly. Thousands days of people apply for a single apprenticeship.

Hahaha I feel the same way about airports. ETs are the very top with the best benefits and compensation. That's what I hear at least. Lot's of other trades with much more realistic chance of entry. I don't need to make $80k a year to be happy.
>>
>>76164674
Yep. According to

http://www.bls.gov/ooh/construction-and-extraction/home.htm

ET's make the most of all those trades by a pretty fair margin.

idk. Something in construction seems more viable from my pov. Ironworker looks pretty neat, but I have no experience in welding.
>>
>>76164933
If you have no experience machining, welding or fabricating shit, don't be afraid to try manufacturing courses at your local community college. I say this because "____worker looks pretty neat, but I have no experience welding"
>>
>>76149651
>with

dude dont know about murricah but here the order of command is pretty clear.

we got helpers (usually russians or poles) and trainees and we got the experienced skilled germans who tell them what to do and how to do it.

if you dont like being in charge then i can see this not being for you but Im fine with being an electrician and doing actually important irreplaceable work for good money and taking responsibility.
>>
>>76165127
I guess. I'm still enrolled in college, and there are few manufacturing/industrial type classes available, but like I stated earlier itt, I'm a technician by heart and trade.

I really just fix and maintain things. Currently in IT. Really, if anything, I just need to get the hell out of the academic system. It's driving me mad. The whole university system and the way it's designed and implemented, with bullshit classes being required for my degree and all this shit, is the primary driver of my desire to get the hell out and pursue a trade.

I think this semester may be my last as well. This will be my fifth one. I plan on taking a few more of the courses actually relevant to my field of study and that I actually want to take/study, but in the meantime find a more profitable venture (though I guess I shouldn't say profitable, more like fulfilling).

Honestly who knows at this point. Only time will tell what happens to either of us. Maybe both you and I find what we're looking for this year.
>>
>>76165631
Not to trigger you or anything but I've got the nepotism to get my way into the elevator technician industry, my friends father is in it and I'm sure he'd help me out if I asked.

Where do you live? I'm in the Chicago area.
>>
>>76166212
Lucky lad. Unfortunately I live in Southern NM, quite a ways away from Chicago, and I don't quite have the resources to just up and leave to a brand new city, much less state out of the blue.
>>
>>76160192
That makes no sense. Why would you not "earn more money" by not doing back-breaking labour, and allowing yourself to have more time for other pursuits rather than having to worry about lost income incase of injury, uncertainty of labour markets, and simply having nothing else besides work because it is so physical that you simply cannot do anything but recover from work when not working?

What does is your person who is fit for future forms of society doing right now? You offer no alternative.
>>
>>76165741

its astonishing how turk-free industry and construction is.
