Why hasn't Australia invaded Singapore?
They steal billions in revenue thanks to their low corporate tax rate, and harbor financial institutions that use Australian equity but don't employ any Australians.
Their entire economy is centered around this and other countries suffer also as a result. Why don't we stop them?

Historically speaking, the fate of successful city states fall three ways:
1. In the process of self defence the city state geographically expands to a point where it is no longer a city-state but a nation (Rome, Carthage)
2. In the process of self-preservation, the city-state angers stronger enemies to wage an uneven war against it to the point where the city-state is destroyed (Gdansk)
3. The city state is propped up by a stronger ally in the face of a strong enemy. The city state must support the stronger ally's interests and in return has a security of sorts. Once the stronger ally collapses, the city-state succumbs to stronger enemy or otherwise finds a new strong ally. Eventually the city-state gets absorbed. (Florence and its wars/alliances with the Holy Roman Empire and the Kingdom of France and the Papal States etc)
Singapore is in camp 3 with United States backing. If the power of United States crumbles in the near distant future, Singapore geopolitically will be in a lot of trouble.

Geography is destiny.
It's quite tragic because no matter how hard Singapore tries, it will amount to naught. If you guys fuck up once in a military war, you're toast. We own a whole continent. We can afford to fuck up and still recover. Russia can fuck up and still recover. America can fuck up. China has fucked up heaps of times in their history. But you guys can't. Thats what history shows. Either conquer Malaysia and stake a claim or accept the fate that eventually you will be absorbed by a greater power.

The government keeps services cheap and this benefits both australian and singaporean companies.
