I know it LOOKED like he was protecting the child. But if he even accidentally pulled him too hard or picked him up too fast, he could have snapped his neck.

They had no choice but to shoot him with a gun. A tranquilizer would have just made him angry.

I'm just as upset as the next guy that poor gorilla had to die, but a human life comes first.
