Yeah, it's pretty prevalent in comics anymore as they rush to make their characters as inclusive as possible. The Supergirl TV show is probably the most blatant example: her awkward but endearing, nerdy white boyfriend becomes a generic athletic, muscular, suave black boyfriend in the show.
