He wasn't really successful until he convinced people he was worth a lot so he could stamp his name on terrible steaks and universities with the hopes that people would see TRUMP in golden letters and think it was a high-quality item, and now he's essentially taken this to a new level of memery. He succeeded in making his name worth a lot.
That's why everything he builds is so gaudy and ostentatious. It was always about the external appearance of wealth. That's why the easiest way to make him buttmad is to say he's not wealthy; he's sued people over such claims.
