Redneck is a derogatory class term not an ethnic or racial term. New England has a lot of Irish rednecks and the midwest has a lot of German rednecks and the south has a lot of Anglo rednecks.
Class hatred in the US is a relatively recent thing. It's mostly done by bourgeoisie liberals. So much for the progress liberals have been pushing for that they've managed to bring class tensions to the US and not only that but contempt for the lower class. Not even nobility or aristocracy had contempt for lower classes.
