we were sent to a diocesan school which caused quite a scandal. the priest at the mission (which we were encouraged to move to) called out people sending their kids to diocesan schools as putting them on the path to hell and so my mom had to quit her job and homeschool us using sspx approved curriculum.

If you strive to be anything other than a man of God, then you're doing yourself a disservice.
All denominations of Christianity are too contaminated with the foolishness of men to be worth swearing allegiance to. Same goes for other organized religions. The best you can do is examine all the scripture yourself and attempt to answer any questions you have within the context of your own life.
I'll probably take my children to a Catholic church, though, but that's mostly for the community aspect. I still don't care for Catholic views on communion or clerical celibacy or a hundred other things.
