I thought that with both forms of defence too, the eyes are so small and you'd have to hold it really still in order to gouge them out, and it would be hard to kick them when they are in really close and gnawing at you, you can get it in a chokehold from behind but that would be hard too considering the dog will be facing you if it's attacking you.
