I'm looking for people older than 20 to answer this so anyone below this age shouldn't reply to this thread.

I'm having troubles with my dad lately, he says that whenever he talks with people and mentions me, they respond saying, "Oh well, is he doing something with his life?"

He says, "No, still playing on the computer." Or something of that like. I've been playing on the computer for over a year now since I've gotten out of highschool and I have bad depression for some reason.

My dad tells me in private that it's rather embarrassing for him to tell other adults that I've been out of highschool for a year and still not doing anything worth money aka jobs.

So the thing is, how do I break away from this addiction and find a job? How do I get a job, /pol/? Because my dad is essentially, tired of supporting me. The people he talks to says that he should kick me out and that if I stayed too long in the house I'd be a lost cause.

Is there any hope for me, /pol/?
>>
Yes, get over yourself and seriously start looking for a job. That's how I broke out of the same situation.
>>
Get a job, any job to start out with. Doesn't have to be a good job just something, once you have one and start working it's a lot easier to find other/better jobs. Additionally, working and having something to do most days will help a ton with your depression.

Good luck faggot
>>
>>75296816
Jobs are outside the house. You have to go outside to get a job. Start walking through your city's business districts and start asking if people are hiring basically manual labor types. The more people you know and talk to the more likely someone will hear of something and call you.
>>
Start looking locally as above, or a) enroll in your local community college b) join the military. I chose option b) and got a steady paycheck and a free education out of it. I didn't know what I wanted to do at that age either, it took a drill instructor to unfuck my shit.

Either way, have a goal in mind and a plan to get there. There's nothing wrong with taking a few classes to get a feel for what interests you.
>>
learn coding
go to community college
???
be ok
>>
Go to college. Even community college. If you had a bad experience in high school (got picked on, anxiety, ect) realize that college is not like high school. The teachers dont care if you are a shitlord and those people wont be there long. Once you start meeting new people you will gain confidence in all areas.
>>
>>75296816
Go apply to all the local electrician companies.

Its one of the "highest" of the trades. the labor isnt that bad, the money is ok and youll learn to talk shit all day you absolute abortion of a person.
>>
>>75296816
Lel nigger, just go get any job you can, then look for better ones. The longer your resume gap grows the harder it will be. Just fill out a bunch of applications over the weekend and mail them out Monday morning
>>
>>75296816
>should kick me out and that if I stayed too long in the house I'd be a lost cause.
They're right.
>>
Is there hope for you? You have you have your whole life ahead of you OP. Apply to a few jobs every day. If you find its not working out apply to volunteer in some capacity which will give you something to put on your resume. Facility management companies ie the people who clean airports, malls, and office buildings are always looking for people and education/experience is not required. Try to take some college courses if possible. Good luck!

Think of what you're saying from the perspective of a potential employer. In a competitive market, you have little experience, little willingness to put yourself outside your comfort zone, and a shit attitude. If I was an employer, why would I EVER hire you when I could pick someone else?

gaming is addictive. it gives you a false sense of accomplishment. get the fuck out of games. no woman ever boasted about their SO having a level 70 nord on skyrim, EVER. Get the fuck off the games NOW.

real accomplishments take a lot longer but they actually count in real life. Honestly the only times ive been really depressed in my life is when I've felt I'm going nowhere, break the "nothing cycle". Don't just think about it, do it. You'll be amazed what you can accomplish.

get a job. be nice to your coworkers. go for beers on a friday etc. talk about what you want to do with your life. take decisions. keep moving.

You'll be fine mate. Most people I know have a year or two of being a bit of a waster in their 20s. Just don't let it become too much of you.

Get the fuck out of your house, you need to move your body and engage your mind.

What are the demographics of your area, Anon? Majority White, Majority Black? How big is the town you're looking for a job in?

Have you used Indeed or Monster to apply online?

I worked at a Dollar General for a couple of months, but it was a horrible experience. You could try for a Dollar General in your area, chances are they're always fucking hiring.

So is Wal-Mart.

I'm in the same boat myself, but I am a whitey in an 85% Black town, so I'm pretty sure I might have to go to the town over to get a decent job.

> I have bad depression for some reason
Go to some acting courses (youtube is fine too).
Then go to interviews as if you are acting. This will also help with depression.

Also a little weed smoking. It`s better than prozac IMO. And physical excercises (maybe some team sports without high equipment requirements like basketball or soccer) can fix something psychologically.

Also find software to dim your monitor in the night and install a dimmer on the light switch. Bright light is interfering with hormones and makes you stay awake in the night.
Also dim the TV if it`s possible.
>>
>>75296816
go to college
if not read your local newspapers for job listings

put on some headphones and walk around the city looking for help wanted signs

if there are none, just walk into any place and ask if they know if anyone needs an employee

it's that simple.

i've had friends who did cooking stints, then worked in real estate, then in hotels, there's plenty to do if you look around

it's not difficult, it's not scary at all, it won't kill you; just the opposite it'll let you live. so get crackin
>>
>>75296816
Get some sunlight, let the crack of dawn wake you up if you have to.

Exercise, its like a drug, curl weights in between your loading screens if you have to.

Drink caffinated tea for energy and motivation. if it tastes strong and nasty just do it.

Cold showers to build willpower and resistance.

To get a job you'll have to hustle not just send in resumes. If you dont have a job then getting a job must become your job, thats 8-10 hours a day devoted to it and not on your computer. If you cant controll yourself then leave the house entirely.

If you dont have the will or discipline to improve yourself then you have to get a job that will do it for you like military or forest firefighting that will get you away from home in a structured environment.
>>
everything on this thread is wrong

you have to recognize things for what they truly are. for example studying, you do not go there to get degree so you could get a job, you go there for social skills. learning is the 2nd thing, learning to get along with people is more important. you learn how to get alone with other students, but also the teachers.

army is for making you lose your mind, in sense that you look for your limits. if you have things easy, then army will be fairly worthless. if you go there, dont sit around if it looks like there wont be much commands. dont directly demand things to do, do it indirectly.

working out. working out is the basic thing for anyone, specially for those who dont know what goals they should have. it takes time before you figure things out, starting from here is one of the easiest choices, the path isnt easy itself, but youll probably see it once you have done it.

being adult isnt about suiting yourself for others demand and needs. dont become trophy for someone else(your dad) to boast about you as his accomplishment. you work for yourself

if you want higher lvl goal, you think of what you need, what could be important for you. lets say you want to know the reason for existance for being with. we can assume it takes time and so much of it that we wont have enough of time because the sun burns out or meteor might hit reset that we couldnt avoid it thanks to communism. so the path we must take to figure new things out is to eliminate idiotic things such as communism. to do that you have to learn humanity and to do that you have to learn yourself first.

if you want go directly for a job, look for something that you know for a fact it helps you to gain the thing you want for yourself or perhaps for the humanity. study the path you need to make difference in your country, such as infultrating goverment jobs, study what do you need to get there. you do not get job to get money, you get it to make a difference.
>>
>>75296816
There's absolutely hope for you man. Write down goals you want to achieve for yourself. Get your dad to help you set up a timeline for you to get a job and ween yourself off the computer a bit. Computer will always be there buddy, your life is passing you by though. You need to act on it and get yourself out of being dependent on others, get life going your way. Fuck I'm going to get shit for saying this but, how do you know you aren't the person to make a great new game, a new type of computer or anything unless you believe in yourself. So believe in you and make your dad believe in you too, make those goals and promises and stick to them. I don't know you but I remember the feelings you're having, you're not alone man. Best of luck

Ask him to help you find a job and you'll take the first one he thinks is something you can do.

You will not regret it in the long run. I was living the same exact life as you until I was 24. My parents supported me all the way through it, they shouldn't have. Nearing 25 I began to feel extremely ashamed of myself and hunted for a job that was nearby. Any job, I'd take it so long as it was something I thought I could actually do.
Eventually I got a job on a roadcrew which I learned was extremely hard to get if you weren't family members with one of the people working on the crew.
It was extremely good pay and easy work, and although it was long working hours it was pleasant to do. I felt really good about myself and even better when I moved out. My parents were ridiculously proud of me and helped me pay for most of my new furniture, which I paid back in kind by helping pay for a new roof on their home and a new ceiling in the bathroom after it got wrecked by water damage.

After a while I didn't want to work on the roadcrew anymore. The pay was good but I didn't feel satisfied with the job, so I tried finding more jobs in my area. I learned even more about the work world, specifically that working any job at all for even just 2 years is enough to open up your options A LOT. I got an apprenticeship to a gunsmith and learned how to make rifles, pistols, revolvers, you name it.
It's been 4 years since I started and I'm already making almost $10,000 a month, and I'm still just a babby in the gunsmithing world.

It's not particularly hard OP, you just have to want to do it and then do it.

Yes, there is hope for you, but you have to realize it and believe it. Tske an hour, hour and a half a day on the computer where you stop playing vidja or looking at porn or fucking around on here and spend that time applying to jobs in your area through sites like indeed. Respond profesionally to any inquiries you get from potential employers, do your best on phone amd in person interviews, amd eventually you WILL get a job. Even if it's a shitty low wage warehouse job. Then go to thst job, work hard and be an honest employee. Congrats, you're out of that rut amd can move on to bigger amd better things from there.

t. It's what I did. Except indeed didn't exist back then, it was all Craigslist and monster for me.

Simple. Tell pops exactly what you told us faggots on the internet. "Yo, I'm depressed and honestly a little scared of the unknown here. I play videogames because I'm trying to escape what bothers me. I don't want to disappoint you, and I don't want to be a failure. Can you please help me get a job? I want to make you proud."

Seriously. Tell him that shit. He'll either have something lined up related to what he does right away, or coach your ass through whatever you're worried about job-wise until you rock that shit. That's what dads are for: their job is to push you in to the deep end of the pool to teach you how to swim, force you to believe that you are strong enough to do it, and when your faggoty ass starts drowning, pull your ass out, slap some sense in to you, and throw you right back in. Once you start swimming, you go out for ice cream together.

All a good father wants is for his kids to be better than he ever was, but he can't help you unless you let him know what the fucking problem is you dumb nigger.

How many people do you know that have a very clear direction in their lives? I can name two, only one is a friend. Even my grandpa, easily in the top 50 woodworkers in the world at nearly 80 years old, still has a few dreams he's trying to work out while he can move and shake. The only thing -ONLY for emphasis- you will know for the longest time is what you might enjoy doing.

Get off your ass and just make a little money. Maybe use it to find a shared aparment/condo/whatever.

If the only thing keeping you from driving is fear, get over it. Freedom is priceless. If you already drive, driving is a prison that saps your freedom by having to give rides or perpetuating the lack of local transportation - you can still run these people over. Win/Win

Sometimes it helps to think about a skill you like doing that you've never thought could be made a job. I guarantee you there's a job for it and all you need is to network to make it happen.

Getting things done is 90% making an attempt. There is no "can't," only "won't." Unless it's biological human flight... for now.

If you're not already buying your own food or paying A bill, do it. Even if it's your father's willing money. Being able to live frugally is an invaluable life skill.

College is mostly a meme, but if you can get a state sponsored AA then do it. It could help you find some direction. Maybe you end up taking a class on a subject you were ignorant of and suddenly find your passion. Your passion is your lifeblood. Not meme'ing - as young as you are there's no need to worry about a large income. If you keep at it the money will seemingly fall in your lap.

Don't think not knowing what you want to be when you grow up makes you pitiful or any less interesting. Some of the most interesting people lived and died in the same boat.

Eat your protein and fiber.

Everything can give you cancer.
>>
>>75314747
>Simple. Tell pops exactly what you told us faggots on the internet.

Truth bomb. Honestly, there is nothing wrong with being depressed or anxious about the unknown. It happens to EVERYONE at some point or another. The problem arises when you see it as a hurdle that can't be overcome, so why even try? When you hide behind it and get comfortable with the idea of always being too depressed and anxious to ever do anything. I still get depressed, I still get nervous and anxious. You just have to accept it, put it in it's place, and continue on in spite of it. You CAN do something with yourself. And when it comes to failure, do NOT let fear of failure hold you back. Succesful people fail at things. But they keep trying and taking that risk of failure, and when it happens, they pick themselves up, learn from their mistakes, and keep chugging along.

BE BOLD. TAKE RISKS. JUST DO IT LIKE NIKE SAID.

What jobs are you applying for? Unfortunately it seems like you're unqualified for any type of "good" job at the moment. You're gonna have to suck it up and take a job at a place that doesn't pay that well I.e chipotle, Starbucks, McDonald's, etc.
It sucks but you have to start somewhere. I know a kid who's in the exact same situation but he refuses to get a job that's "below" him. I have exactly zero respect for people who have this attitude. Suck it up and get a job like anyone else, then work towards building a resume and attaining a skill (go to a community college or a trade school). If you actually want to change, suck it the fuck up and start grinding. You'll never get anywhere in life without sucking shit up. Trust me if we all could, we'd never work another day in our lives. Unfortunately, that's not how life works. Imagine being alive 200 years ago. Every single thing you'd do would be considered work today, and that would be just to survive. Working 40 hours a week at a shit job isn't nearly as bad as living in a time like that. Get your ass out there and find that fucking dog
>>
>>75296816
It's a disappointing thing, I can handle telling people I'm shit and work a shit job, but I feel for my dad having to tell other people that all his sons despite being given such a good upbringing have done nothing with themselves

Try and get a job op, any job, even if it is pushing wheelbarrows or working at McDonald's

I would tell you to throw your computer out but you need it to look for work

Pick up a hobby as well, something your father can interesting say to his peers, he can say how you spend all your time down the boxing gym and you are a good boxer or something along those lines

Listen to Dave Ramsey. Yeah his show is mostly about handling money responsibly but that's part of being an adult. He gives some good motivation at times about getting yourself together and set up to build wealth. Even if you have no marketable skills right now you can still get started on savings by getting a couple part time jobs or delivering pizzas in the evening. Then work on something you can do for your future career, save up for community college, or whatever it is you need to succeed.
