Hey /pol/ need some advise
I'm 18 and graduating high school next month, wanted to go to college but don't want to take out student loans. So I'm thinking about signing up for job corps
I originally wanted to get a degree in computer science, focus in security or system administration.
Job corps has 2 IT related careers, computer networking and computer technician
Would it be wise to go into job corps and build experience in IT while also working on getting a CS degree?

Both options are wrong.
Find a state College with a CS degree that partners with a local community college for program transfers.
Get your 2 year degree from community college to wipe out general class requirements and such, then transfer.
You'll end up spend half as much. Also find a job, work a few hours a week.
Student loans don't need to be paid back for half a year after you graduate and even then your repayments can be based on your income. No income no need to pay.
The cost of tuition is the cheapest part of college. It's the fucking living on campus costs that rape your ass. Get a cheap apartment or living with Mom n Dad.

Do CS right away and don't bother with Job Corps. Job corps will learn you how to use a tool and that is it. SYSOPS is dying, everyone is trying to kill it, stay away. Do your CS, do the hardest courses, and learn as much as possible on cryptography.

Don't do a transfer unless money is a huge concern. A big part of university is the contacts that you made with the fellow students and if you come in at the last two years, those connections will be tenuous at best.

Depends on where OP lives. If he lives in a shithole the contacts won't mean anything because he'll need to move. I got my degree in NY, but fuck all if I was going to find a tech job there. I had to move to the West coast. The only thing that followed me was the name of the university I attended.
